Watch those fingers when scavenging for brass.

In my 20s I had a 2' garter snake go up the inside of my pant leg as I stepped on it, I did not drop the ice chest either of the beach chairs or my fishing pole ! I did how ever hop and dance a bit of screaming like I had snake up my pants. I cleared the field and finally shook it out, There were witnesses but thankfully NO cell phones then

In the '80s I used to shoot HBR up near Leavenworth, WA on weekends. First time up, wife and I camped out on the range. About daylight, I hear 22rf gunfire. I unzip the tent and climb out. Old Man "Whitecane" Johnson is out there wandering around the range shooting rattlers. He had five already halfway thru his recon.
I was afraid to tell my wife. I say just somebody shooting targets. We slept at the hotel that night, and every other night since.
My Ranger Team, my second tour, killed a 19 foot long Python just north of Danang. One of our KC Scouts skinned it out, and we took it, meat and all, back to camp. What do they say: "tastes like chicken...".

I hate snakes...

It’s funny you said that because a friend of mine just told me a story within the last year related to that. His uncle had a bird dog that had gotten bit by a copperhead and was really swollen up and appeared that the dog wasn’t going to make it. His uncle called him and his father to come over and help him. His father held the dog while his uncle held the spark plug wire on the bite and he pulled the rope on the push mower. The dog recovered overnight
Buddy's was telling me Saturday about one of his Catahoulas that was bit years ago on the nose by a copperhead. He drove it to the vet for anti venom and was informed by the vet they don't have that.
The vet just gave the dog shot of benadryl and a shot of pain medication. $240 lesson.

C'mon Guys . Ben Avery was built out in the middle of nowhere , way out of Phoenix . Now Phoenix has come to Ben Avery , and the local residents are looking for a place to live .
You can find snakes almost anywhere here , because the city grew so fast , in all different directions at the same time . It's THEIR Desert . We just get to use it , so when "visiting" your neighbor's backyard , look ! They were here first .
My family has been in Gilbert since the 1930s. At my dads place he sees coyotes once in awhile, foxes and he has heard of a bob cat but never seen it. He is in the middle of town and sees this. We have seen so many houses go up the natural animals here had no place to go. I miss the sounds of frogs after a good rain or after irrigation.

Neighbor across the road called and said she had a snake in her yard. She ran it under her shed then she threw a flare in after it??? Didn't want her dogs to get bit.
Didn't see it so went back home. Called about an hour later and said "It's back".
Went over and stood there for about 20 minutes, Finally saw it. It blended in VERY WELL in the fallen leaves. Popped it with my .410, chopped it's head off and buried it then pitched it back over the fence into the vineyard.
The coyotes and birds need to eat too. Still got the rattles.
Never have seen a rattler on my place. A few Gopher and King snakes but no rattlers. Lots of Garden snakes. Did spot a Scrub Jay killing a small snake in the driveway so that and maybe the 3 cats keep them out??

when i was in the usa i sat on a log, enjoying a cold one and smoking a favourite cigar, and got bit on my backside over 20 times, by some fire ants it was the worse pain ive ever had in my life, jeezz couldnt sit down for a couple days the little buggers bs.

New York State. Downside: democrats. Upside: No animals want to bite or eat you.
Rattlesnakes are found in NYS, in select areas, Lake George area, Cicero Swamp (outside Syracuse), Niagara Falls area, Letchworth State Park, (south of Rochester) the park actually has “Snake Crossing” signs. Copperheads are found downstate, in the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountains.

Democrats are mainly found downstate with large groups in the NY City area. Unfortunately, they have spread to many of the larger upstate cities. Rural areas generally are safe from Democrats, but like hiking in snake areas, keep you head on a swivel and watch where you step.

We actually have adders which are venomous. That said I've only ever seen one. Far more people killed by cows!
A senior gentleman from Canada used to compete with us in NYS. He was a retired member of the Canadian Military Rifle Team and has competed all over the world. A few years ago he made a trip to Bisley and during a lull in the match he sat on a stone fence near the range. He told me he felt a prick on the back of his leg, thought nothing of it, then he felt it again. Looked around, noticed nothing odd. That night he woke up with leg pain and looking at his leg he saw that it was discolored. He went to the hospital and was told that he had been bitten by an Adder snake. They saved his leg, but he had nerve damage that bothered him for years.

Yeah Tongue Mountain Range has a large population of Timber rattlers. They’re pretty timid though. I did not know we had copper heads.

My son comes home with a bucket of garter snakes pretty much every day in the summer.

My kids went to College downstate and used to hike and rock climb in the Catskills. They both remarked having seen Timber Rattlers and Copperheads in the mountains. They were careful to give them wide right of way.

When rock climbing, she told me you never reach for a grip without being able to see in the crevice. If a snake was looking out at you, she would yell, “snake” and jump away from the cliff and her boyfriend would coordinate her rope to a different way up the cliff. She’s got bigger balls than me, one snake and I’ll be in the car drinking a beer waiting for everyone else to finish.
