Warning about Hornady 53gr V-Maxs

Every Prairie Dog I shot with 53gr V-Max out of a 22-250 ,sadly blew up guts and red mist every where !

Not on PDs but on other critters, I have the same problem with Sierra Blitz Kings. :-\

Meeeeeeeeee too. I mean how are you going to save any PD pelts with poor bullet performance like that. ;) ;) ;)

Don't shoot the 53's but the 75 & 87"s certainly help with the "fun factor". "If they ain't a flyin, you ain't a tryin"!!! Just used up about 400 last week on those persistent critters! Our defensible position was almost overrun a couple of times!! LOL, Eric in DL

I threw some V Max's at rock chucks last weekend.They all blew up too. I must have some of the same defective lot of bullets.

Thanks Ironworker, Hopefully I'm getting ready to find that out in a couple of weeks
using my .22BR.

John

You got some of that defective lot too! And that critter is REALLY defective now.

I'm totally sold on V-Max bullets for rodents. Pink mist every time. Years ago a friend and I were in the PD fields shooting identical guns, same chambering, virtually same loads. The only real difference was his loads were with Sierra bullets. He managed sevaral "doubles" due to bullet pass though. I never had that happen with my Hornady bullets.

I have a box of these and a slow 14, maybe 12-twist Remington .22-250. Should I load 'em up, or not waste my time?

If it is a Remigton, it is a 14"... and if you want to shoot the 53 V-Maxs, you need to drive them hard.

Okay, thanks CS. I'll give it a try.
