wanting to start competing in nra prone at 600 in spring

see you in november. been shooting 5 a day at 200 on a 600 to 100 yard target. still getting a few magnum fliers. how long do you get to fire 20 shoots?

1/2 MOA X ring ( 3" ) and 1 MOA Ten ring ( 6" ). Its a pretty tough target but shooting a perfect score is seldom done.
Lloyd will help you with anything you need, he's just that kind of guy. Dont tell him I said that though Shhhhh.

Should be alot of fun.

Thanks Russ, stay safe.

model 12 toby,
You have 25 min. to fire up to 5 sighters and 20 shots for record. I usually finish with between 7-9 minutes left.

can't wait. been getting some pretty descent groups just using a harris bi pod. got standard deviation of 12 the other day. that's probably about all the better reloader i am. :). by the way my middle name is lloyd.

You don't give yourself enough credit! Ya made me go all the way to the basement to measure a 600 yd. f-class target. It's 36" across for the total 6 ring. In other words, it's a MOA target all the way out. Hope to meet you in Nov.

If you're pressed for time, just dump the powder from the powder measure into the case (some people weigh each charge). Don't be benchrest-anal about loading and you'll get those rounds out in no time; and you may be pleasantly surprised at the results.

You can do this. Focus, get to building your bullets, have fun. It will be the best 75 rounds of shooting experience you'll get in one day, not to mention the great fellowship and new friends you'll make. Stay positive, shoot with confidence, do your best and you'll be fine. After the first shoot then you'll have a personnal score to best. ;)

Around here... a simple club-level 3x600 match with the first stage being unlimited sighters + 20 record shots and the second/third stage being 2 sighters + 20 record shots... signup/registration starts around 0830, match starts about 0900, usually finished by 1400-1430, then another half-hour or so while scores are tabulated and awards given out. It may go a little faster, may last a lot longer - depends on how well organized the match director is, how many unplanned things break or go awry, and how hard the line officer rams the shooters through.

If you don't shoot go and watch the shooter that seems the most familar with the match, ask questions after the match. a shooting coat is almost a have to have item for prone with a sling. The sling really cuts the blood off in your arm. Any padded glove will help. Have you shot prone with a sling at 200 or 300 yds? You can practice dry firing from prone position. Do you have a spotting scope and stand that you can look through without loseing your prone position, by just rolling a little? Good luck

it's f-class now. they talked me into it. lol. i'm almost ready. shot at 400 a few shots today to see what it'd do. it was all right. got 14 bullets to load and a few maps to print out. ;D. this outta be fun.

Your gonna have so much fun. I'm getting jealous. Where I used to shoot 600 f-class is 235 miles from me now {Port Malabar FL.}. The range I belong to now {Bradford} goes out to 850 but no f-class.

53 miles. i guess they're supposed to have a 1000 yard range in the spring. ???
i've only shot one time at 600 and it was in a field. did all right. shot 400 today. did all right. can't wait till tomorrow. got 14 rounds to load and some sleep to get. ;D

Toby,
I have several shooters that I mentor, offer advice or whatever you would like to call it that started in the same boat you are in right now. They range from a teenager shooting F-class with a 223, her dad with a 308 and a 3rd fellow also shooting a 308. All are Marksman class shooters, but are progressing nicely. My shooting partner also started in the same place you are, and now is holding his own very well in the masters class shooting sling prone and making the shoot-off at the nationals in a time span of under 3 years. If you want to learn the ins and outs of this game without making all the mistakes yourself, all you need to do is contact me via a PM. If you would rather take the “low road” so to speak, by all means do so. I believe in the pay forward plan. That is to say, someone took the time and effort to get me back into the game and put me on the path to where I am today. (Trust me, I have a loooong way to go but thank you Tom). All you have to do is make contact with me, and we can take it from there, off this board. Let me know what you would prefer to do. Remember, the only thing that limits you, is you.
