Wanting to shoot in different classes of bench rest

Bench rest only here.
I've got an unlimited bra and .22. I'm really limited at all the matches and I want something that will be in the other classes.
Please explain, suggest, tell what you have and what class it covers.

A bra seems like the smart cal since that's what I shoot already but I read allot about ppc ...
I'm totally ignorant about any other cal CF.

I see a class that you can't change the barrel on. What happens when it's shot out ?

Johnny

You need a 10.5lb ppc. Forget the bra or any other br variant. Get a good bat ds configured like you want and get good with it. Remember bullets and barrels and rest. Be sure the stock is Light varmint legal and you can shoot all 4 classes

Lots of bench rest formats, short range, long range, UBR, VFS, etc. Which ones are you wanting to shoot? The rules and requirements will vary.

Score shooing UBR or VFS shooting, a 13.5 pound gun will do the trick. If VFS, get a 30BR. If UBR, the sky is the limit since the targets are caliber neutral. Guys will use 6 PPC’s, 220 Beggs, 30BR, etc.

Group shooting at 100 and 200 yards is all about the PPC in a 10.5 pound gun as Dusty said.

I've about decided on
a bat sv
Jewel
McMillan stock
Bart barrels ppc & 30

Why an SV? Im just asking because its not the normal choice (never seen one in any match) and was wondering what made you go that route? A 10.5lb ppc will shoot in any br match in any class. A 10.5lb ppc with a 30 major barrel and a 2lb weight will get you the edge back some think you lose by not having a 13.5lb gun and wont limit you to score only shooting

Depending on your location, looks like NC, there may be ranges around you that shoot UBR. In that game, most anything you have will be allowed in 1 of the 4 classes. You stated you have an unlimited bra, there is an unlimited class you can shoot and compete in. Check out the website for local ranges unlimitedbenchrest.com

Johnny, I took up IBS score shooting a few years ago & have enjoyed it. Looks like there's a few ranges in NC but not sure how close they are to you. Very similar to the rf you're use to.
I'd try it or UBR score. Think you'd like it.

If you looking to shoot short-range group & score on a casual basis with your other guns my suggestion is the 30 Major. Brass lasts it seems forever and the barrel will last you thousands of rounds. Easy to tune and low on recoil....Look it up..;),,,,,,,,,,Happy Shooting.

Rick

Just curious as to why the SV instead if a DS? Not sure I've ever seen a SV in competition but I have seen many DS. This is one time to follow the herd IMO. Buy once, cry once and don't paddle upstream backwards....:)

Don't want a 10.5 ...
Recoil is an issue at a point.
I don't/won't shoot all the disciplines mentioned. UBR, IBS, club.
I have an unlimited that IS a winner IF I can become the shooter for it.

Sv was suggested due to weight.
... ?... Idk ... Things aren't finalised.
I do like my ds but it's a long arse throw, if I'm thinking right about it.
Prolly go with another though.

Stock choice is on my radar now ...
Humm, requirements ...?
