Waiting on gunsmith ,Montana Labor weekend

Dropped rifle and new bbl to gunsmith back in May ,his partner said were all caught up. Any how he said recently he's have it done by Montana trip. So new 12" twist Muller works bbl 22/250. Might not have time to work up some loads. So I'm thinking 35grs of Varget behind 60gr Sierra TMK ,I wonder if that would be a safe bet for a accurate load ? Prairie dogs 100-300yds average shot.

That sounds like a good start...I'm using 36.0 grains of RL-15 with 53 gr. v-max. Varget and RL-15
seem to be very close in burn rates when looking at the reloading manuals.

With those 53gr V-max ,how fast,how long of a barrel ? I have 200 53 v Max also.

53g V max with around 36-37g of Varget will be a better option than the 60g.

Run a ballistic's program. Less Drop = less low hits

Stick powder in the PD field is not your friend. It produces
more barrel heat per shot than small grain powders. LDS

My 28 inch Pac-Nor barrel is slinging the 53 gr. v-max at 3770 fps. average velocity. I have been very
happy with the accuracy I'm getting. Ackleyman is right as the 53 gr.v-max has a high B.C. Too.

I bought a zero free bore .252 neck no turn reamer for the 53 gr. v-max and has worked perfectly. I have been
getting very good accuracy and hopefully the throat will last a bit more with the zero free bore.

If you are looking for a top velocity load for the middle weight bullets in your 22-250, like the 53gr Vmax, give RL17 a try. There are a few 22-250 shooters on this forum that are using RL17 with the middle weigh bullets in their 22-250's and it seems to work pretty well for them.

I have a Kelbly 22-250 with a 24in 1-12tw Brux barrel on it and when I get some time to start working on a load for it, the first combo I plan to use is RL17 and the 53gr Vmax.

Running the numbers through QL shows 3900fps with those 53's as a good possibility.
