Yesterday at the range with my new 22 Creedmoor

I've found the loads I'll take to MT Prairie dog fields. 132 rounds down my new rifle. 26" Rem Varmint contour Muller works 8"twist bbl Bat Igniter action McMillian Game Warden 2.0 stock Trigger Tech Special trigger.
Alpha brass 41.0 gr of H4350 75gr ELD average velocity 3537 6.6 SD out of 10 rounds tight groups on a cold, windy day.
Alpha Brass 42.5grs H4350 behind Hornady's new 62gr ELD-VT bullet out of 5 shots average velocity was 3,844 MOA SD of 23.9 43grs out of 5 shots was 3,873 SD of 11.8same MOA accuracy Then I tried some 60gr Nosler BT with 43 grs of H4350 Peterson brass average velocity was 3,880 with SD of 16.3 and then 3 shots of 43grs of H4350 behind a 55grs Nosler varmingeddon for 4,040 FPS with under 1/2 MOA all at 100yds. My rifle doesn't like H1000. I wonder which of today's loads will be the hardest on the barrel. Also, there are zero pressure signs and no hard extractions.

I think I'm going to reduce my 75gr ELD load by 1.0 grain

I think that will do it. Hahaha

That's just mean!!

I ll be curious how the 62 Eld vt s perform.

How far off the lands did you find your accuracy with them?

I ve got some coming for my 22-250 AI and 223 !!!

That tends to slow down when mom and dad quit buying the tires, lol.
Thanks for sharing I have a 22 CM I have to break in soon the weather is getting better now. I will probably start at 40 grains of h4350 I already have another barrel on had both 1/8 twist both is it the speed that kills barrels or heat from fast shooting one shot after another or maybe both . Which is the biggest factor.

I think fast shooting.

I've been selling barrels for nearly 4 years, probably approaching 400, and I have only had a handful of guys buy another one because they shot one out. Of any caliber.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure people shoot out barrels, but I don't think it happens nearly as fast as people talk about on the Internets.

I've got a good friend & customer who often goes out and just shoots until he runs out of ammo. I don't understand why he does this, but guess that's his 'therapy'. He brought me one of the 6XC rifles I built for him, and when I borescoped it with my Hawkeye, it was obviously 'shot-out' - it was so worn that I did a Cerosafe cast of the chamber & throat to show him. There was no rifling left in the 3" ahead of the chamber. And this same guy was asking me to sell him some of my primers when he ran out and couldn't find more for sale...

In his defense, I believe he was shooting with RL17 at that time, and I think it may be one of the worst powders currently available when it comes to throat erosion. I've stopped using it, even though I get excellent accuracy & velocity out of it. I had a 30" Bartlein 6.5 1/8tw medium Palma that I'd chambered for the 6.5x47several years ago. It shot great on my BAT 3L prone rifle at 1000yds with Berger 130 Hunting VLDs loaded to 2912fps, but at 1300rds, it just stopped shooting, groups opened up past the point where I would've even considered using it for practice at 600. The borescope didn't show anything alarming, but the proof was on paper, and there was no question that it was done. Had more or less the same experience with RL17 in a couple of straight 284 Win bbls. All these barrels were used exclusively with heavy-for-caliber LR bullets, and all of them shot really well, until they just abruptly stopped shooting.

Is H4350 hard on barrels?
Generally speaking, I don't think so. But most any cartridge of 40 gr or more in a .22 center fire is going to be much harder on the throat than something running 30 gr. of powder. Not saying you can't get reasonable life from your. 22 Creedmoor. Just don't overheat the barrel, as that is when the real damage is done. Just my personal experience. Good shooting too you!

Maybe a few guys rotate their barrels but once I get a shooter I keep it.
