VV165 in the 6.5 x 284

What has folks experience been of VV165 in your 6.5 x 284 with 139/140/142gr projectiles?

Shoot the same/better/worse than other powders?

More/less fouling?

Longer/shorter barrel life?

Kevin-I personally shoot re22 but have a friend that swears by vv165 in his 6.5 wssm. With that said vv165 re22 h4831 and h4831sc are all about the same burn rate. I am not saying to do this but I have swapped from one of these three powders to another with the exact same load and they all shot the same. If you like their powders I would use it in that cartridge!!! The only thing about the 165 is that it will be slightly slower velocity wise from the other two. Good luck!!!

I shot nothing but VV N165 in a 6-284 quite successfully for several years. However, when I went to 6.5-284, I found it gave significantly larger SD's that H4831SC. While both powders produced good groups at 100 & 300 yards, I opted for the H4831SC primarily because of the more consistent velocities.

That said, N165 will give better barrel life than just about any other powder in the same burn rate range because it has a lower specific heat,not sure if that's the correct nomenclature) than any of them. That's not just "theoretical". My last 6-284 barrel was still winning 600/1000 club matches with well over 2200 rounds down the tube.

I shot 165 in a 6.5x284 for a while but to get good accuracy i had to use a lot of powder and the pressure went through the roof. Try h4831 it has given me great accuracy and low pressures. Ollie

I have shot n-165 in 2 6.5/284`s. Shilen barrel shot about 2900fps with a sierra 142 and my kreiger shot accurately anywere from 2900-300fps with a gtb 141vld. Excellent barrel life,very clean.
My 300wsm liked 165 with the berger 210`s but shot a little slower.I since switched to 160...chris
