VV Powder with 6XC

Anybody using VV powder with 6xc, particularly n160, n165 with 105-115 gr bullets? I did some searching, but the results were pretty old.

I would think that VV150 would be a better match in the 6XC. MAYBE VV160 but 165 is way too slow.

I shoot, quite a bit of, Both, VV N-160 and StaBall 6.5 with, 95 grain or, Heavier bullets,.. in my, 6 XC .
Both powders, work real, Fine and produce, great Group's when, Bullets,.."Tuned".
My "Pet load" of, StaBall 6.5, THROWN, with, 107' SMK's, "Jammed",.. are, Unbelievable !
Yup,. I B,.. Lazy at, times thus,. the "Thrown", Ball Powders !

N160 with 105s and 107s has been excellent for 1000yds. I have a short throat 6xc-ii chamber.
I think the VV data is very conservative. My.load is over their max in the book but I'm making 3050fps in a solid node with no issues with the brass.

My 6mm Creedmoor rifles are kissing cousins to the 6xc. I've been using VV N555 of late and it works quite well.

I too found N550 the best of the Viht powders with 105-108s some years ago. It pressured out though at a bit less MV than I expected / wanted. (Alliant Re17 rectified that at the expense of barrel life.)

Viht N555 introduced since my XC days might be suitable, but N160 and anything slower burning are too 'slow' for this modest size cartridge.

I agree. The 6XC's capacity is only slightly less than the 6mm Creedmoor and there are many that run N-165 in their Creedmoors. I've been meaning to try N-165 in my 6XC, just haven't found the time yet.

Tubb used to run n160.

A 240NMC was very close to 6XC capacity. I used nothing but N160 with 115 or 107 class bullets and shot some great scores at 600 and 1k. 39.5 gr was the load if I remember correctly.

VV N-160, is "Well Suited" for, 105's, 107 SMK's and 108 grain, Elite Hunters, in My 6 XC and,..
gets some Awesome Groups from, my 6.5 Creed Tikka, with, 130 grain, ELD-M's at, 2,800+ FPS !

6XC has several grains less capacity than a 243. Can u use N165 in ur XC, sure, but u may not be able to load enough powder to get the velocity u are looking for.
There is a reason the 243 SLR is so popular. It has just enough more powder capacity to push 115 gr. bullets without the higher pressures n shorted brass life of a 6XC.
