VV N150 Loads in 6 Dasher or Straight 6BR?

N150 is widely used in 6BR and this bullet weight category in the UK with excellent results. In the 'straight BR', max is usually somewhere around 31gn with 105-108gn. In practice, you can't get much more into the case, and in any event need a funnel with a decent length drop tube like the Forster and a slow, angled pour.

Forget burn-rate charts. N150 (and N160) are much 'quicker' than are shown in most charts. We use N150 as the 308 standard powder with heavier match bullets over here.

I recently started working with 150 again in a dasher after scratching my head and walking away from it.

This single shot ladder test was shot in Western Colorado.

Vertical steps and velocity steps are too big in this 3-shot ladder.
I started with a powder charge that was higher that what I would have liked.

Note
Pressure was present during this entire ladder. These are not likely safe loads in all firearms.
YMMV

Spastic is a good way of describing this target. The overlap at the upper end is good, however I didn’t really see as good of overlap at the lower end or middle.

Smaller increases may flesh those out?

While searching for an alternative to Varget I thought the cooler burning VV 100 series of powder made sense and wanted to try some N140,no luck finding that.
So I thought N150 might work and give me good case fill to boot.I was concerned that it might be too slow according to all the burn rate charts I’ve seen, wrong! as Laurie has stated above the new N150 is way faster than the older lots.I assembled some 6BR loads for the new 32” .236” Kreiger 4 groove that Ronnie Long chambered for me starting with 30.0 working up to 31.2, well folks I was in BRA territory with speeds of 2950 to 3002fps.I had slightly extruded 450 primers so back to the drawing board and to get to the point of the op’s question the load that I settled on and gave me my first screamer at 600 yards is Lapua brass turned to .012”(.270”) 28.0 N150 Berger 105 cci450 2880 FPS s.d. 3.7, so much for 100 percent fill ratio.Picture is 5 shots in 1.019”

OK I threw together 3 rounds to try during my practice session. 6 BR, 28" Bartlein, 78F, 88%RH, 29.94 Hg, Lapua multi fired brass, CCI 450, 103 Gr Bullets, Seated into the lands .015 past touch
N150 Grains speed (lab radar)
30.6 2889fps
30.8 2906fps
31.0 2933fps

Primers were a little pouty but bolt lifted easily. Faster than I expected for sure. Probably should have started at 30,0. I'll be doing more testing. Thanks for all the feedback.
