Bartlein barrelVudoo is making a 22LR repeater patterned on a Remington 40X. The barrels available they have in stock are Bartlein, Kreiger, and their own proprietor barrel called an Ace - all cut rifling.
Any idea which would be the better choice? I'm leaning toward the Bartlein.
Are the actions available as stand alone pieces, or are they only sold as completes???
Interesting they are using single point cut barrels, I think most of the competition rimfire shooters all use button rifled barrels.[/QUOTE
This is true. The voodoo action is a high end repeater action that mimics the Remington 700 footprint. They are primarily used to build training rifles for the PRS tactical crowd. They are capable of excellent accuracy but arnt a purpose built benchrest action. Benchrest shooters are looking for the absolute best accuracy and it takes a long time to smooth out a cut rifled bore with 22 rimfire. The PRS crowd uses cut rifling for what is believed a little longer barrel life.
Rimfire purist believe button rifling offers a superior internal finish. Of course it depends on the lapping. A good 22 rimfire with button rifling should be good for about 100,000 rounds so longevity is a moot point most of the time. I would go with a Shilen or Benchmark for a rimfire, but so many prs guys shoot centerfire cut barrels they stick with what they know.
