7mm is still a wonder caliber. What caliber has more F-Class open records?I get all of that about the 6.5 caliber bullet, and as I gleaned that it’s the PRS crowd that has brought it to light, but it’s only because of the interest in long heavy bullets that the various bullet manufactures have been marketing bullets .224, .243, .257, and 6.5 along with so many custom barrel manufactures along with the firearms manufactures offering high twist rate barrels to accommodate these long heavy per caliber bullets. I not nocking that nor any new cartridges, but if one looks back some thirty or so years ago, the .284/7mm caliber was being touted as the new wonder caliber. My take on it is that it is somewhat of a fad. As for me, I’m more interested in the development of new gunpowders and more efficient cartridges designs to take advantage of these new gunpowders.

All that effort typing a long rambling diatribe about a 5 year old post???In my opinion the only reason to wildcat cartridges today is "just because" anything else is just an attempt to rationalize what is really "just because"!
Given the insane amount of cartridges and bullets we have to choose from today until you deal with the limitations of brass and the limitations of human and rifle interaction especially for hunting but even for target shooting most everything is a nothing burger or stupid!
Taking Sig's technollogy and having China clone it so we can all actual get our hands on two piece case design and using it when desired to increase the performance of classic cartridge makes far more sense! Even with the newly proposed 104% tarrif on China it would be the only affordable options!
If they had brought to market a souped up 243Win, 308Win, 7-08Rem, giving them all true magnum performance they would sell every single box of ammo they could produce. Same thing for the brass they would not be able to keep up with demand. Avoid propritary cartridges like the plague. You would then have the choice to run normal pressures and velocities or to increase them a little or a lot!
Luckily for me I got all of the faster flatter non-sense out of my system long ago. I want an accurate rifle that is fun to shoot and puts meat in the freezer. I want low maintenece so not a barrel burner.
People never want to focus on the things that matter most like ranging, wind reading, shooting fundementals, ammo selection/reloading precesion, patients. So it must be the cartridge or the trigger.
All of the above is why "just becasue......" is the best reason and answer for cartridge wildcatting today! It does not make the sense today or provide the same level of utility it once did!
In fact this world would be a better place if when doing stupid or irrational things that are both legal and harming no one people would just admit it made no sense and provided no utility but they did it "just because..."! Like climbing K2 or Mt. Everest it provides no utility or discovery for mankind and your ultimate prize should you summit and return safely is permanent brain atrophy. Just Becasue! LOL
