Vortex PST Gen II 5-25x50

I have one, the sfp version.

I've only taken it out twice so far, to 100 yards. Can't really say how good the glass is until I get it out to 1000 yards but so far I'm pleased with it. It's definitely better than the gen 1 scopes. The eyebox is good, very comfortable to get behind. I've never looked through a Sightron SIII and I don't have a Nightforce or a Razor2 handy so I can't compare the glass to something else that's meaningful.

The turrets are very nice. As far as repeatability goes, I have not really tested that either, although zeroing the scope was simple and it's held zero. Like the glass I'll know more when I get it out to 1000.

I'll be taking it out to 1 mile next month. Should be a good test.

I put up a short video of my scope on youtube. Near the end I show the illuminated reticle at settings 1, 5 & 10.

yea I seen it..
Would like to know how clear the optics are and how it performs in low light.
If the optics were clear I am very interested in one.Would like a glass quality comparison test against something better.

If I were a betting man, I'd say it's the same glass as the golden eagle. The turrets and eye peice look the same as golden eagle also. If so, it will be a hit.

I doubt it. On Vortex's website, The golden eagle lists both high density and APO as features of it's glass. The PST gen2 does not have either of those features. The PST gen2 does have something called XD (extra low dispersion) glass but it doesn't mention anything about density. I feel the PST gen2's glass is pretty good, but it's not going to be GE or Razor good.

I was just in Scheels on last Friday and held and looked through that exact one (5x25). I owed 2 gen 1 PSTs 6x24 and I was not impressed with them. JMO. This gen 2 PST feels like a completely different animal. The clicks felt crisp and the glass seemed clear although I personally feel I need to have it side by side to my NXS or USO to accurately judge the clarity of the glass. The scope has a good weight to it. I don't believe it is as heavy as my NXS.... I REALY hope it preforms because it would be a great scope for the price. I am very excited to give it a try. The ONLY thing I did NOT care for much was that the reticle seemed to be a little thick for my liking but then again that is just preference. Good luck.

I had one in my hands at a gun show where the Vortex rep was present, unfortunately this wasn't my localendar shop where I have a Gen ii reserved.

I couldn't judge the glass being it was indoor but I believe the rep told me that the glass was Razor glass. I have a PST gen 1 in my safe waiting on my 6 Dasher build to be finished, I don't shoot competitions, I'll be using the rifle for varmint & predator hunting so I'd like to know if the Gen 1 will be good or if I should return it & wait on the Gen ii?

Thanks

The height would kind of depend on the rifle it's going on. Something with a full rail like an AR or a Ruger Precision Rifle would need higher rings than a standard Remington 700 and a rail. With the Remington set up I run a set of .92" height rings with my 50mm scopes.
