Vortex Optics

Anyone have any experience with Vortex Optics? I was looking at the Viper 6.5-20 or Viper HS 6-24. They seem to have pretty good pricing, but I was not sure how they stacked up to say the Leupold VX3 6.5-20. I will be using it on a 7mm Rem Mag that will double for mule deer hunting and long range target shooting (for fun, not competitively), long range being 300-600 yards.

I recently bought a Vortex Razor 6.5x20 FFP scope for my f-class rifle. Fabulous bright optics and perfectly reproducible turret adjustments. An excellent value, though still not cheap at $2k.

Vipers are great scopes for the money. Equal to leupold VXII optically, not quite as good as VX-III optically. But tougher and more reliable than Leupold with a much better "no fault" lifetime warranty.

My Comp rifle has a Razor, I can afford any scope out there, but the Razor simply works beautiful, I want a Razor Spotter, I have looked thru a number of spotters while ROing matches, The Ziess Spotter 60 is King, but its not 3500 dollars better than the Razor, after Xmas I'll get one, Vortex also has an overtop warrenty, with super quick turn around if needed.

I just mounted one on a friends rifle yesterday and was impressed with it while sighting it in for him..
A nice bright sharp image all the way to 300 yards..

I wish they would make a BR model - in their Viper, Diamondback, Razor line, or whatever. Just something with max power above 40x, 30mm tube, and 1/8 MOA or 0.05 MRAD target turrets. A reticle like NP2-DD would be nice too. Something to give NF, Weaver, and Leupold some competition.

Literally just got a Viper PST 6-24X50 in the mail today. My only comparison is a Nikon Buckmasters I had, but the Viper's glass blows that one out of the water. I haven't used higher end scopes, but so far, I am really impressed with the optics on the PST. I should be getting rings in the mail tomorrow, then mounting it and shooting saturday. The scope is everything I wanted for the price. I don't expect it to be a Nightforce, or USO, but for my uses and budget, the scope is perfect

I did a comparison between the Viper 6.5-20X50 and the Leupold VX-3 6.5-20X50 over several days and lighting conditions at ranges from 50 yards to 10 miles. There are 2 major differences between the two:

1) The Leupold is less dependant on head position and has a slightly longer eye relief.

2) The Leupold cost more than twice as much.

Optically the 2 are very similar at all lighting conditions, the controls are very well designed and both offer repeatable click adjustments that are audible and tactile.

Due to the price difference, along with no real gain in the Leupold, I personally ordered 5 of the Vipers that have been passed around between my Father, Brother and Myself.

This happened before the introduction of the Viper HS 6-24X50, if the HS was available at the time I would have bought it insted as it is an (slight) improvement to the old Viper.

Being that I used to be in the sales side of the optics business I also must say the Vortex is one of the best companies I have ever worked with. There customer support is very good, seconded only to Swarovski. I had a customer with a question on the Razor that I couldn't answer, so I called Vortex. Not only did I get a human being on the phone but when he couldn't answer the question he sent my call to one of the primary designers of the Razor! Try calling Leupold and see what sort of response you get.

I have been researching the Viper HST 6x24, Mil-Mil for a while. Everywhere I looked I cannot find anyone with anything bad to say about them, most comparing it to scopes costing way more.
I decided to get one and was looking all over at prices, most everywhere the lowest price I saw was $639.00. Just for the heck of it, even though I was a little strapped for liquid cash, I looked on eBay the other day and found one for $489.00. I was a bit leery thinking maybe it was refurbished or something else was not right, but I went for it anyhow. I got it in 2 days, and to my delight, it's a perfectly good new scope.
There are more cool features in this scope than on any other scope I've owned. Not only if this scope lives up to the reviews will it be a great scope, from all I hear Vortex has the best warranty and customer service in the business. As long as you don't take the scope apart you'll have nothing to worry about. I'm convinced you could play softball with one and send it back and they'd make good on it.
In sum, I have it all mounted and bore sighted on my Rem 700, and I can't wait to get out tomorrow and put it through its paces. I would suggest that you do the same as I did and look at all the good things people are saying about it, and I'm surer you'll be putting one on your rig.
