Vortex Golden Eagle?

I compared a GE side by side with a NF BR and decided on the NF.

Honestly, optically they were very very close and if not side I would probably not be able to tell the difference… UP TO 42x on the GE. The NF is limited to 42x by design. The GE is limited to 40-42x by poor performance beyond this point.

I would have been happy with either… chose the NF for preferences on features and slightly better optics. But, the GE had some nice features too…

About the only thing I think I can definitely offer is don’t plan on the GE offering you the benefits of 60x… it is really limited to 40-42x.

I tried a GE before I settled on a Sightron. I use the SIII LR series with target dot reticle. I love that scope.

I agree with some of what has been said already regarding magnification and glass quality. I think that could have something to do with seeing the market flooded with GEs. I do like Vortex. In fact, I was a fairly loyal Vortex guy until about 5 years ago. It seems quality took a dive, and that’s sad. I liked that they are veteran friendly and also local (I’m from Wisconsin).

I have GE NF BR and Comp. I rarely shoot either at full magnification unless I'm sighting in. But having the option to crank it up a bit is nice. I may be wrong, but I don't think the GE has a zero stop. Not a tie breaker but sometimes I get lost in the turret and it is a nice option. On nice sunny days they are nearly equal out to 40X or so.

I was shooting my GE at a 600 yard varmint match when the old man seated at the next bench asked me how I was doing after he had finished his string. When I told him that I couldn’t see my bullet holes, he zeroed in on my target with his nightforce and told me where I was hitting. After I finishing, I asked to look at my target through his scope and there was really no comparison. The clarity of that nightforce scope blew away my GE on that day in those conditions. It’s been a couple of years and now I can’t remember what model nightforce he was using.

I've been shooting the GE in F-Open for a couple of years. I shoot on 60x almost all the time and love it. At first, I also had mirage issues beyond 42x. Then I bought a 52mm scope tube that extends to my muzzle. I now shoot on 60X about 90% of the time as heat from my barrel was the problem... not the scope. I love the clarity and the EBR-1 reticle. If I want to aim at the top left of the upper right wing of the X on the target, I can do that with certainty. Your score will not increase with any other scope but you may have more people who think you are a professional shooter if you use a Nightforce of any kind (just like Ping irons in the game of golf). The Nightforce Comp 15-55x IS a little clearer and is a great scope too but don't expect your scores to increase over the GE. Because of the exceptional Vortex warranty, you can get 2 used GEs for every NF Comp and you will shoot the same score with any of the three.
