vortex golden eagle vs nightforce 15-55

You are correct; that is why its necessary to look for yourself! By the way the new Sightron SV with ED glass is the best I have personally looked through, and the addition of a fine-focus knob is a useful feature.

That scope is getting a lot of good press. Glass, POA holding, side focus are all supposedly top shelf. Only complaints that I’ve heard are the weight (which can be budgeted for in LR BR) and unimaginative reticle choice. I tried to respectfully convey this to an employee at Sightron, but was dismissed. Maybe if lots of us did, they’d listen. Seems to me that they punted on 3rd & short in the red zone.

Funny I guess, but divergent: I had a SIII SS 8-32x56 that I soon sold after getting a GE, because opposite of your findings, the optical quality of the GE was much better, when I had both to the range for a comparison. Strongly felt the clarity of the GE was particularly better at my distant targets.

Hear it often enough, how peoples vision are not always the same in scopes/optics !.!.!
This is truth! Aren't we glad we are not all the same!

Got down behind both before I settled on the GE - found the glass to be much of a muchness but find the GE easier to get behind.

Having had many of both NF. comp. and GE. the glass goes to NF. Small groups go with GE. That all being said, Glass and brightness and holding point of aim, non fussy eye box and 4.5 " of eye relief plus a superior parallax adjustment go with a Sightron SVSSED10-50x60 TD. Having all three side by side it is had to believe the size of the image on a 50 power is larger and clearer than a 55 or 60 power scopes. Looking through it is like having 20 year old eyes again, the down side is the weight but I built a gun around this scope and it made weight easy after being balanced. You need to look through one to believe it...... jim

I have a Vortex GE and like it really well but have never owned a NF, I own one now ATACR C553 5-25X56 (by mistake) I work out of state and had order this one and by the time I got home (2 months later) I can't return it even though it is still sealed box. My next step is to go to a retailer and look at them side by side (I'm still out of town now working). ;0(

Thanks Jim, I'll do just that

Just one more opinion on this , but if you're only shooting to around 300 yards , I would strongly recommend taking a look at the Vortex 6-24x50 HST . It is the non-electronic version of the PST . I have two of them on 600 rifles , and a GE on my 1,000 yard rifle . The HST is ; in my opinion , more than enough scope for 300 yard distance , and a boat-load cheaper than the NF , or GE .

How is it Holding POI?

Ray

Ray, it shoots very small, and is super fast due to the non fussy eye box. The big plus is when you dial out the parallax you can see through the mirage. Weight is the only down side .... jim

Jim my experience as well, the SVED cuts through the mirage quite well. I'm heavy too, so extra scope is no big deal.

and another note, I don't know what to infer from it either, is that I have been looking for an sved on the used forum for quite a while and haven't seen even 1 come up for sale:eek:. seen plenty of ge, comps, nfbr, etc. never seen an sved yet:mad:. seems once you get one, NOBODY gets rid of them or just about no one has purchased many yet so not many on the secondary market:confused: idk

I like weight, I think you should come trade that thing to me Jim!

Better yet, you should handle them and give me a good deal on an other one..... lol... jim
I will look into it, I used to just stopped as most regular foot traffic around here didn't want them. Hell even if it's just to feed a few guys a year if the program isn't too bad I might have too.
