vortex golden eagle vs nightforce 15-55

One thing I really like on the GE over the comp is the eye box is not nearly as critical . For the money you are hard pressed to find a better scope with out paying MUCH more $$$ . I have looked through March , S+B , Nightforce , Sightron and really don’t find the glass in the GE to be a problem . I have owned all of the above at one time except the March , and had the pleasure of viewing and shooting through quite a few at the range and settled on the Vortex . Good price point , good glass , and I really like the ECR reticle for F Class .

I agree with almost all of that. For whatever reason, I much prefer the eyebox on the NF BR. Funny how we can see thing differently. The NF Comp does have a more sensitive eyebox than the BR. Not sure if a BR was in you comparison either.

No question...the GE is a better bargain in terms of glass. I see nothing to indicate otherwise with the GE but the NFBR has proven itself well, over time. FWIW

I have one GE and like it a lot but I do like the ECR better than the reticle I have.

You are right, but with less than 3" eye relief and free recoil does pose a problem and it may require stitches ..... jim

I have compared the GE to NF at the store, I bought the GE HD. I have heard that the glass is different between the two. From what I have seen the older GE glass wasn't as good as the newer HD.
When comparing the two side by side in the store, I didn't see enough of a variance to make a difference, at least to me and in the store.
Another thing, I liked the GE ECR-1 reticle more than the NF DDR-2 or the FCR-1.
I also chose the GE because it has a better track record for holding POA, something that I had heard that NF was struggling with.
There are many very knowledgeable shooters who have provided their opinion on this thread. As you can see, there are those who like the GE and those who like the NF and those in the middle. My recommendation, if possible is to find a store and look through both for yourself. Everyone's eyes and expectations are different.

Boy u got that right Jim. I bought 2 absolutely mint safe queen 12-42 NF's with my favorite reticle the discontinued CH3 and mounted them on a couple of rifles that both needed some weight. First and only match that I shot with it at the Pine Tree in NY at 200, I got clocked 4 times with it. Good thing it has rubber around the eyepiece or else I would of been bleeding like a stuck pig. I am seriously considering selling both of them.

Just one more opinion on this , but if you're only shooting to around 300 yards , I would strongly recommend taking a look at the Vortex 6-24x50 HST . It is the non-electronic version of the PST . I have two of them on 600 rifles , and a GE on my 1,000 yard rifle . The HST is ; in my opinion , more than enough scope for 300 yard distance , and a boat-load cheaper than the NF , or GE .
You can have 2 opinions on this! LOL

SVSSED series is a completely different animal..... jim

That is a totally different scope, SVSSED10-50x60TD.... the ED glass is the difference. need a bigger numbers on the check to get one.... jim
Love my SVED, Had it for about 8 months now, shot it at Berger’s this week, I never took it off 50x, fine focus is tops. Tracks right on, only thing it can’t do is call my wind for me!

Bingo! ^^^

The scope is just one tool in your box and not everyone is going to want the same tool for the job. Once you enter the world of quality optics personal taste and feel has a ton to do with it. Everyone sees things differently and how you see through it and the confidence it gives you is everything in this case. A $4,000 scope in the hands of someone who isn’t comfortable or confident in it is no better and in fact could be worse than a $1,000 scope in the same persons hands who has all the faith in it. I’ve seen HMs in my group shoot crazy high X-counts with sub $1000 scopes and just as many fail to clean targets the same day with $3,000 ones. In my experience find a quality scope that your eyes like and your brain trusts and it’ll be hard to go wrong.

I’ve owned two GE, two NF comps and currently run a Kahles. I’ve had great days and cruddy days with all of them. But the scope wasn’t the reason for good or bad days. I was. It’s just a tool, not a magic wand.

That is not totally true, at my age and shooting free recoil and having to see the hits zeroing in changes the game. I had or have all the scopes you mentioned but you need to try one of the SVED, it is like your eyes got 20 years younger..... jim
