Vortex GE aperture ring

Just got my GE with ECR-1. It has the aperture ring and I understand its function and how it works, i.e., stops the aperture down to increase the depth of field thereby allowing mirage to be seen over a longer distance between the gun and target. Vortex says you can put the aperture ring between the scope and the sunshade or at the front of the sunshade. My question is what is the effective difference in depth of field between the two locations?

Emailed Vortex with this question. According to them there is no performance difference between locations of the aperture ring. Personal preference where you put it.
