I should probably wait until I am all finished testing, but I think there is enough to show an indication of what is to be expected. I bought one for close range prairie dogs and because I like shooting 22 mags. I have had a Kel-Tek PMR 30. Worst malfunctioning P.O.S. I ever had. Yes the mags were loaded correctly and yes it was after they allegedly fixed all their problems. 38% malfunction rate with 6 different kinds of ammo. I had the Rock Island 1911-22 mag. Over 18 - 22% malfunction rate. Strangely, it was the worst with Armscor ammo. I also had a Excel Arms Accelerator. This was the best out of the three but started having feeding problems after about the 500 round mark. It also had the biggest grip and I had big hands.
So I bit the bullet and spent the money for the Volquartsen. I am happy I did. They do not recommend using 30gr. poly tipped bullets as they may not have enough energy to operate the bolt. In my piece they are correct. My Anschutz rifle shoots the Hornady 30 gr. V-Max slightly less than 3/4 inch. So I have a large inventory of this ammo and thus shoot it more. The 50 round ammo test per make produced the following results:
First test series 50 round increments fail to cycle
Hornady 30 Gr. V-Max poly tip — varies from no malfunctions per 50 rounds to 9 per 50.
Win 34 gr. Varmint jhp — 2. Armscor 40 gr. jhp - 0. Aguila 40 gr. jhp. - 1. Norma 40 gr. jhp. — 0
Intend to also test : Federal 50 gr. Jhp. — Win. 40 gr. Jhp. — CCI A22 35 gr. jhp.
It does better with the heavier bullets but I am curious as the where the cut off is. We all know rimfires can be a bit fussy or temper-mental, but for me the Volquartsen is the best of the bunch. After I am done function testing, I intend to pick a few for accuracy tests.
