vmax and superperformance powder

hi guys i thinking of using the 53 grain vmax and powering it with some superperformance powder. i want to use it in my tikka t3 .223 with a 1/12 barrel. i was wondering if any of you have used the combo in .223 and how you got on with it and just out of interest what load you use. cheers guys

I use N-135 with 52 gr bergers and 53gr hornady good combination for me good luck.

I was excited about the extra fps claimed by the superformance. then looking into it I couldn't I couldn't find any good reviews on it for 223. in fact Im pretty sure several people on here were trying to sell of their bulk buys on it. I didn't end up even trying any so take it for whatever its worth.

I dont believe you will find and load information on the 223/ Superperformance powder as its way to slow of a burn rate for the little case and really to slow with the lil 53gr projectiles.

If you look in your loading manual you will see that it has a burn rate around the H4831 and H4350 area. With this being said you could not get enough powder in the case to develop a hill of beans worth of velocity. Your best bet would be the faster burning powders in the Bencmarck..N135, or others listed in your laoding manual.
If you dont mind me asking... What Manual do you use?

Best of luck

I would caution you for it's use in the .223 That powder has no load data for the .223,

the "Factory" loaded .223 using Superformance Powder is from a different powder that we can't buy.

They have listed only those few cartridges where the Superformance canister grade we are able to use excels and is safe.

Use XBR8208\CCI 450\Lake city brass with the .224 53 V-max to get great accuracy and velocity.

You need a 1-10 twist or faster to get good accuracy.

sorry ive been slow replying guys, i use a lee and a speer manual but ended up using 26.5 grains of h4895 with the 53grain vmax. yet to work out the velocity or finalise the tiny adjustment of the load but so far i have it under .5inch. i spoke to hodgdon about the superformance powder and they said the same as you guys pretty much but did say to try the cfe223 if i wanted that little extra velocity. cheers and thanks for the replies

You don't need superperformace powder to enchance the performance of the 223 with a 12"twist. Benchmark with 50 grain bullets can safely get about the maximum performance out of this cartridge. Make sure you follow the recommended loading data.
