I use the Redding Comp. Seater die with the VLD stem for all of my different calibers and have not had any issues with either of them. I find it a good habit to lube the inside of the stem void with Imperial Die wax applied with a Q-tip. Seems to stop the sticky release when lowering the cartridge back out of the die.@Bill Norris
Bill you have had yours for a while, what is your assesment?
My only experience is with RCBS Gold Medal Match in 338LM. I do have a Redding for 308, have not tested it yet.
I have the F A Seating Kit as well as a back up if one of my Redding Comp dies were to have a heart attack or stroke and could not function properly.I too have the FA seating die "kit". I'm very happy with the performance and accuracy of the micrometer. I also like the window for placing the bullet. I load several different calibers (6.5, 308 plus a few hunting calibers). Nice packaging and it works. Not sure how someone can say otherwise.
I also have the Redding competition seating die for .223 on a dedicated press. I don't see any difference in performance.
Bill, does the Redding Competition die have a bullet alignment sleeve? The Redding I had a while ago did not, but it was not the competition die. I'm very happy with the Hornady I use for 6CM and won't be changing that...but I may be replacing the Rcbs I use for 300blk. If the Redding has the alignment sleeve I'm going to give it a try.I use the Redding Comp. Yes, it has an inner sleeve that keeps the case aligned within the die. I would mention that some time back I realized my Rock Chucker press was not sitting exactly level on the bench. I shimmed the mounting surface and re-mounted the press along with removing the spring from the ram and replaced it with an O-ring. I am content with it now as my cases are standing perfectly straight up in the shell holder and not cocked to one side.Bill, does the Redding Competition die have a bullet alignment sleeve?
