Redding Micrometer Stem Add On Question

I'm looking at purchasing the Micrometer Stem for my Redding 308 seating die. Does anyone know if the VLD stem will seat both VLDs and Standard bullets?

Unless you are going to dedicate a press and permanently leave your seating die in the press you will always get some variation in your seating process. If you want no mess or fuss repeatability, especially if your are using different 30 cal bullets or for that matter different 308 rifles, I would get a Wilson micrometer seating die with an arbor press. Thanks, Ray

minnesotamulisha,
OleFreak is correct but I will add that the VLD stem should probabaly be used on our Target Hybrids , Classic Hunter and OTM bullets also.

Just like Ray said and my shooting friend told me so I finally bought a Wilson Micrometer Seating Die with an Arbor Press and now have great repeatability in seating my bullets.

Redding recommends their VLD stem be used only on VLD projectiles and the standard stem on all other.

It also works great on Hornady A-Max bullets which are pretty much a VLD design anyway with their secant ogive.

The VLD stems are a little more "fragile" than the standard stem so it's best to have one that best fits the bullet you intend to use it on.

I currently have a press dedicated to seating bullets. Although right now, I am not seating VLDs as I have yet to find more Varget on any of the shelves. Until I can pick up an 8 pounder, I am running MatchKings.

Looks like I'll need two. I will definitely look into the Wilson Seating Die. Thanks for the input, everyone.

at the risk of hijacking this thread a tad can i ask a question? i use a redding comp seator and when i mic up my rounds i get 3 tho difference.some seated lightly some hard to get it down this low.i then turn the mic 1 or 2 tho to get them all reading the same.my question is this ,am i making things worse dialing 1 or 2 tho as the base of the bullet may have been correct and the one or 2 tho could be where i mic the rounds?
any thought please.
mike

no not in the 6br.i was at the weekend in a 223 that had more variation but put that down to my friebdslee press and standard dies.one would seat to length with no preasure yet another would have 5 tho longer length after using a bit of force.
