VLD seating die

L.E. Wilson makes a VLD seater plug for their chamber type seating dies.I use one in my 6.5 Creedmoor die and it's perfect for the 140 grain ELD-M bullets that I shoot in it.It also was a much better fit with Berger VLD's and Nosler RDF's.I had to buy the stem separately,it costs around $24.Very much worth the money.Low runout and no rings on the bullets.

Frankford Arsenal Universal Bullet Seating Die for .224 to .338 Caliber with Micrometer Stem and Storage Case for Reloading, Black. Comes with VLD seating stems. Thinking of buying one
I mean, yeah, that will probably stuff a bullet into a case....

Sound like you tried them...
Don't need to try every new little thing these marketing departments come up with to take my dollars.

A little bit of engineering and loading knowledge serves well, in this instance, to note serious issues with precision potential in a die like that. The same is true of most tools that try to multi-task: they do indeed accomplish several things, but don't generally do any of them well.

Given the title of the very forum, I figure you're interested in accuracy.

Have a good day!

I have a Frankford Arsenel die and really like it. My final run-out #'s are good (appx .002) on average and very user friendly. Of course your run-out #'s also depend on your sizing die and procedure but the seating die does it's part. For all but the most demanding of accuracy this will be the only seater die you will ever need. JMO

I love hearing from people with experience on a piece of equipent, whether good or bad, rather than "keyboard warriors". I have a dedicated high end for my 338LM
Thank you!

I have loaded lots of berger vld, hornady eldm, eldx, atips and never needed to change seating stems from the one provided by die company, these were all seated from redding dies and i never saw any bullet deformation.

You can also modify your current seating stem to seat VLD projectiles. Slightly enlarge the hole for the tip, so the inner ring now pushes on the projectile, further down the top of the jacket.

Will need to deep the hole in the seating stem as well.

I haven't tried the Frankford Arsenal but I've tried a lot of high end seater dies, including Redding, Forster, Rcbs and always go back to the Hornady Match grade die with the micrometer. The thing that sets the Hornady apart imo is the alignment sleeve. It lines the bullet up with the neck and seater stem before it enters the die.

The ELD stem works with all low drag bullets I've tried.

Who makes a micrometer seating die that will seat VLD bullets?

Redding makes their Competition Seating Die. And they have two different VLD stems available for it (long, and short).

I have the Comp Seating Die with the VLD stem. Works well with Hornady ELD-M, Nosler RDF and Berger VLD bullets.
