Very ammo sensitive?

Anschutz as far as I know. It has the Anschutz taper in that the muzzle is thicker than the barrel for about 4 inches. I do not know the twist. I'd assumed it was 16 like most 22 rimfires are. I will validate. Not tuning. Probably won't. The older I get the more I value limited variable sets. A tunner adds a whole other dimension that I'm resisting. That could change.
A tuner will help, but not make sub-par lots shoot like top tier lots. it may just eliminate the fliers you were getting.
this time of the year I do most of my tuning. I like high 40's to mid 50's but have tuned in high 30's to low 40's this Anschutz an older 1411 is already tuned the lot I shot that target was the very first time in that rifle not bad in 39-degree temps.

Very nice. That is the kind of empirical evidence that could be quite convincing. Nice target. Of course a 2x4 between the eyes also serves a great way to convince someone that that tuners work. That is usually the kind of evidence I require. Just ask my wife. :)

Ouch! They can help. as long as it is understood it won't make coal into diamonds. you still need good consistent ammo.

Lee, I think it's even shorter. No idea whether that would affect the strength, but I'd be inclined to change it as regularly as I do with 18xx/19xx.
Tim, I remember reading that Anschutz's. armorer recommended replacement. every year at minimum but regardless, when a used rifle is being discussed I always recommend replacement. poor ignition is just as bad as shooting inconsistent ammo.

Lee,

That's what factory techs told me. A new 1913 spring is a few quid, so I agree changing regularly is a no brained.

Interesting about the springs. I'll ask the Anschutz NA gunsmith about it if he ever returns my call. Also want to know about a 54.30 barrel wrench since these are threaded barrels and the barrels seem to be available.

RWS R50 and R100 are hard to get over here in the EU, and it’s made here. Its premium ammo, expensive and not all RFD’s will stock it here.

Have you tried RWS Special Match, it can shoot very good (rifle/lot dependant of course) and it’s far cheaper than R50 and R100.

I have not tried RWS SM. Difficult to find anything here at this time. I did just get 2 bricks of R50 from a shooter here on Accurate Shooter though. If they shoot well I'll pickup more.

Try Champchoice.com when their computer comes back up. They will ship to you depending on the state laws in your state.

Currently it is the only thing that will shoot in this gun in this cold weather. As the weather changes the preferred ammo may change as well.
If this is the 54.30 you were discussing rebarreling elsewhere, it may in fact be due to the issue you observed with the barrel.

Temperature does affect performance somewhat, but it shouldn't be that gross for good match ammo. For example, it was 20F this morning in Richland, WA when I shot the appended target. Those are all 10 shot groups at 50 meters (55yards) with wind < 5 mph, shot from the bench, with front rest, rear bag.

3 lots of Tenex from 2012-2018, marked 1056 - 1075 fps. 1 lot of Midas+ from 2018, marked 1076 fps. 3 lots of R-50 from 2022, marked 1089 - 1092 fps.

Top row shot with Stiller 2500, bottom 2 with Walther KK-500. Measured with Ballistic-X, they range from .537" (.93 moa) with .178" mean radius, to .249" (.43 moa) with .078" mean radius. I am not saying they are world class, but an experienced F-Class shooter with good (Anschutz) equipment and match ammo (Center-X, Fio 320 Exacta, R100, etc) should expect similar results, even in the cold. I would focus on the equipment.

One other thing to tuck away for future reference... Lapua Biathlon Extreme shoots good for me in several rifles, and I use it and R100 in 100yard and longer matches. But two of the crowd I shoot with have had extreme difficulty chambering it in their Vudoo's, and one in a Match 54. Just something to be aware of

The Champions Choice phone number is (615) 793-4066. When I called a few days ago, they had a message that said their computer was down for maintance and gave last Monday as the date it would be back up. However, a quick check on the website shows their computer as still down.

They did have the site up for a couple of days and then went back down. they are from what I saw completely revamping the site and how it looks. for example, you can now order ammo like before and not have to call.
good and bad as you now can order any time of the day. before it was more equal since everyone had to wait till, they open to place an ammo order.

Thank you. Yes it is the same rifle. I have a brick of Lapua Biathlon X on the way to try out as well as a couple of bricks of R50. I think you may be correct about the barrel. I'm still researching what's available and how to change them out. Info is a bit skectchy. I've been here with bad barrels in F Class where you chase something that cannot be caught only to change the barrel and all of a sudden everything is working. I need to call Anschutz NA again next week.

Richland, we'll probably see you around. I shoot at Rattlesnake occasionally. It's the closest 1000 range to me.

You can order a barrel from Nordic Marksman in Canada the website prices are in Canadian dollars at current exchange rates a 54.30 barrel listed at $495.95.CAD is $370.62 plus shipping. in comparison a chambered blank will be in the $650-$700+ from a smith.

370 is good. I might be ordering one next week. Want to talk to Anschutz next week and find out about action wrenches.
