Vern Juenke Comparator

Have one to sell.
No Longer made.
This works very well.
The Hornady 190 BTHP bullet in the photos was very uniform.
This was from the late 80's or very early 90's.
Large meter was added and Vern made the same for all later units.
Us old Farts can't see any more for long range and Palma.
This works very well for jacket wall uniformity.

Anyone have any idea how this works?
They were the latest and greatest 25-30 years ago. I THINK it was based on an induced current field the intensity of which was influenced by the jacket thickness. The bullet was rotated and if the meter reading varied it indicated an off center core which was not conducive to accuracy.

Watched one being used "in the day". They had a fervent following and were expensive.

Others with more in depth information may check in.

I have one. It uses eddy current to detect differences in jacket thickness. The scale measures in deviations units and goes from 0 to 50. A reading of 0-5 according to the literature are the pristine bullets, 6-10 are still really good, and 11-15 are still a decent bullet, especially at short range.

I use it mainly to check for the odd outlier that may occur in a batch, but for the most part all of the custom bullets I've tested have been great. Even some production bullets measure really well. Berger target bullets, Nosler BT's, Sierra MK's, and Hornady V-Max all gave good results.

It's hard to put your faith in it if everything measures good and you get good groups, but I do have a lot of bullets that just shot horrible, and I dug them out just to see if the machine could detect any problems with them. I knew they shot like crap, but if the machine didn't detect anything there wouldn't be any sense in using it. It was a bullet I had shot several hundred of that always worked well before, they were Speer 50gr TnT's, and they had more deviation than the unit can measure. The needle swept from side to side and couldn't be dialed in, which confirmed what I was seeing on target.

I had use of one of these about 20 years ago. I really tried to convince myself that it was worth sitting down and checking all of those bullets. I guess I am still on the fence when it comes to the machines worth.

One thing is for sure. Using one to sort bullets sure doesn’t hurt anything.

It seems that if it was really made a difference someone would still be making it or something like it.

Edit

I know nothing about these machines but what I have read over the last couple of years on the forums and doing internet searches.
Call George if you want to learn more, I think the two machines are similar?

One reason is because he's not a silver or gold member that is registered and by the forum rules your not allowed to sell stuff outside the classifieds.
This is where scams are made.
If you don't believe me, message the forum boss and tell him. He has posted this many times.
