Vermont Maple Syrup

I don't know where to post this, didn't think it fit under tools, dies and misc.

A close friend and his son have a small syrup business. They made a little over 200 gallons this year. Most of it is fancy or extra fancy, but some is dark Amber or "b" grade, which is my favorite. This is 100% maple syrup.

They will ship two half gallons flat rate for $63. Most places get $60-70 before shipping.
Of course you can get pints up to gallons and they also make maple cream!
2016 syrup prices
$40. per gallon
$24.50 per half gallon
$14.50 per quart
$10. per pint
maple cream $ 9. per half pound
plus flat rate shipping.

All shipping is actual shipping cost.

I think you should post it on a web site that is for selling maple syrup1 You think? RW

Yeah, because no shooter would ever want real maple syrup for their pancakes before heading to the range.

This was syrup being made the old fashioned way last month at my neighbors. After tasting it, you will never use that fake Aunt Jemima stuff from the grocery store again.

C.B., that is a cool way to boil. Should have a slight smoky flavor.

I agree. I have two forums that I trust. This one and Sig. Thought I would share a good deal.

Oh no!! Don't post it ANYWHERE else. Let's keep the good stuff right here!:):):) Thanks for the post. I'm almost out. I cook breakfast in my house. I specialize in French toast and waffles. Ya gotta have the good stuff.:D

argrendel,

Since I haven`t tasted your friends maple syrup, what is your recommendation for the first time buyer, the "B" grade???

Phil.

YOU have never tasted maple syrup until you smother sourdough pancakes with it!!!

'B' grade will have a richer maple flavor than 'A' grade which is more delicate.

It's a matter of preference, but I prefer the 'B' grade.

Add it to squash (e.g. Butternut) for a nice sweetening, and subtle maple flavor.

Me and a friend made some a few years ago and it was great. It took us a long time to make just a gallon and about a half. And we didn't know any better and made it in his kitchen. When we were done his wife went to clean up and we had a very sticky film on all the walls that she could not get off. This stuff is not only great tasting but its a lot of time and work. I don't see how they sell it that cheap!

Depending on the grade (sugar content) of the sap going in, and how much you reduce it down (I like mine thicker, but most commercial sellers leave it a bit thinner since it goes farther that way), you are looking at somewhere in the 65-80 gallons range of sap per one gallon of finished syrup.
