Varminthunting around Hagerstown??

Hi
If everything works out as planned I`ll visit a good friend of mine who lives in Hagerstown. Would be a crime not to try and find some decent varminthunting when I`m in the Land of Hunters.
So If I`ve understood this right, if one wants to find ground squirrels you have to travel way out west, right?
But how about coyotes and groundhogs where will you find these and which time a year do you hunt them?
Please, if you have any info on places who sell varminthunts, would be very interrested in deer hunts to but they are much pricier I understand, send me a PM or e-mail. You will find my adress under my profile.

Kind regards
Rolf, Sweden.

Sorry for not making that clear from the beginning.
Yes Maryland is correct.

I`m hoping for some deer hunting too, with centerfire rifle, so I guess that decides which time during the fall I`ll be there.
I`m not sure exactly when this occurs but some time during October I believe.
Do you know of any varmint hunting in the area? Info on any kind of hunting what so ever would be most appreciated.
I`m an omnivore when it comes to hunting.

Kind regards
Rolf, Sweden.

You should be able to find a farmer or two who will let you shoot his hungry groundhogs but i have not talked to a Maryland farmer or a PA farmer yet who hasn't made it very clear that his deer are off limits. You should be able to find some good public land for deer.

If you’re up for some multi-distance benchrest, there’s still some shoots in October at St. Thomas’s Groundhog Championship Oct. 18

& Mayberry has their last shoot October 4.

Both are well under an hour drive from Hagerstown.
And Ship shoots Oct. 25

I live 50K north of Hagerstown in the state of Pennsylvania which starts only about 10K or so north of Hagerstown.

Groundhog hunting here is slowing down a lot come October. While there’s still a few to be had it really isn’t the right time for that. Pennsylvania’s centerfire deer season doesn’t start till the end of November. October is all archery & 7 days of muzzleloader here.

There’s sure to be others here that know Maryland’s rules. From what I hear Maryland is very generous on how many deer you can take. But the public lands in Maryland are hard to score in. I shoot with a lot of guys from Maryland and I’ll ask around over the next 2-3 weeks once we start up again. After all the good brass you folks send us, it’s the least I can do.

You guys are the greatest!

I`m not forced to go in October, if there`s a better time a year for the hunting I`ve mentioned just tell me and I`ll go then.
I`ll look in to the web pages you gave me and see if I can come across some BR shooting. Can`t bring my gun with me but it would be great just to see you guys in action and to change some experiences.
Once again, Thank you and tripcrow, I`ll send you a PM within a couple of days.

Kind regards
Rolf, Sweden.

You guys bring a new meaning to the word hospitality.
I`m not what you call a trophy hunter so the size of the antlers isn`t that important but I don`t want to rub shoulders with a bunch of other hunters.
Perhaps it would be best to go during late spring like you say? How about turkeys, which time a year do you hunt these?
How far from Hagerstown, Maryland, would I`ve to go before I run in to good deer hunting? I can`t afford the most expensive hunts but perhaps it would be better to buy this hunt, guided, rather then go to public land and not having a clue where to look for the deer?
Really looking forward to be hearing from you guys again.
Regards/Rolf
