Varminter hunters using mirage shield

Anyone use a mirage shield when varmint hunting?

When shooting sage rats, at times it can be fast shooting and the barrel heats up quickly.

I use a barrel wrap I made, I keep it wet with a spray bottle for mirage and heat. I shoot many thousands of Pdogs yearly and have yet to see a better way for what/how I shoot them. Ive run 30-40 round strings and have not had the barrel HOT, warm sure, but that wetness draws heat fast and no issues with mirage due to barrel heat ever.
OK here it is. Just a cotton t-shirt, doubled up, sewed, then folded over and gave a bottom sew, double your sewing so it dont tear, split it at your forend, sew edges and its done. Worried about looks...who cares it just works!
Its split right at the forearm and then slids under the scope, Velcro strip to strap it around the chamber, wet down and go shooting. Make sure you have a spray bottle and wet it when you start to see it dry out. I use up a gallon of water per day of p-doggong if its hot & sunny.

You have a photo of the barrel wrapped? What's the wrap made of?

I've been doing some checking online and have found some interesting information on the shields.

Here's an interesting one from AccurateShooter, August 2014. Not sure how accurate the photo in the article is, but is interesting.

I use a piece of mylar drafting film, about 2 -2 1/2 wide, held on with Velcro. It's all bent up but works fine.

For my barrel wraps I took an old t-shirt, double rolled it into a tube oversized (a bit loose) of my suppressor and barrel, sewed it up on each side, then folded again and ran a bottom seam just short of the front end of the stock, (did 2 pieces as the shirt was short of my rifles length) that area is left open (like a flap) to fit over the forearm to the chamber, bipods not in the way due to the way its split either. I attached a velcro strip to the very end that's around the chamber and that keeps it attached to the rifle. I made it long enough to put crinkles in the wrap, that way its not tight or stretched, and it holds more water for cooling and keeping any mirage out of my scopes from the barrel.
Flicker is down but Ill get a pic up when its fixed.

How does the wrap effect barrel harmonics?

That's a good question. I going to try it out in the near future. With and without the wrap on and measuring the heat from inside the barrel, before, during and after.

If it does change, I don't believe it will be by much since the portion covering the barrel is loose and not tight along the barrel.

It'll be a fun experiment.

I’m thinking a little more of a heat tape ( exhaust pipe stuff maybe)
