Varmint scope

How’s their customer service & are there many dealers around? That Tract optic is interesting but I never heard of them.
As was stated above, you call them and one of the owners will answer the phone. Both named John. They sell directly to the public, no middle man markups.
One of my favorite varmint rifles, a 220 Swift, wears a 3-15x50 Tract. So far, tracking and zero retention are spot on with clear glass.

Ok I have some older leupold scopes didn’t realize the newer ones didn’t track well ?

I see midway has leupold mark 4. 8.5 x 25 for $ 1049 are theses good scopes & is that a good price?

I am a die hard Vortex hater but that Razor LHT is an incredible little scope. They can be had for $1,000 and retail for $1200 or so.

If you buy a Leupold, it’ll probably break. Most of them do at some point.

Zeiss v4 or a used v6 will track like an SHV but have better glass.

For daytime only, the NF SHV glass is ok.

Yup,. I'd buy, the Zeiss V-4, Conquest, in a 6 X 24 and spend the rest of your Money, on Ammo to,..
PRACTICE at, those,.. Longer Ranges !
Try RedHawk Rifles for, good Prices

If calling coyotes is on the menu, I would pay attention to FOV.

I prefer no more than 3X on the low side of the power range, and wouldn't have one with FOV that's less than 30' at 100 yards, more won't hurt a thing.

You don't have to spend big bucks for a solid scope, this one checks a lot of boxes:

Think you need to reassess what you know about coyote hunting. If your calling coyotes and you have to take long shots your doing something wrong. Most called coyotes will be under 100 yards.

If your doing spot and shoot hunting, reaching up to adjust turrets and parallax are things that will spook a coyote.

I hunt public lands all over the west and my longest shot was 200 this season with a majority under 50 yards. It was a an odd year for me with some med problems that kept me around home and not hunting all of Jan but I did kill coyotes in ÇO, AZ and NM

My ideal scöpe for open country is a 2-12 BDC wth pretty heavy horizontal bars to a finer center part, it will get me to 500 without having to mess with anything. I really like to see a FOV on the bottom end of 40+' for fast target acquisition for those one that somehow seem be able to appear out of nowhere.

I was writing during the last post and that S-Tac is a lot of scope for the money. I put one on a colony varmint rig with the MOA reticle bit find it too fine for coyote hunting an acquaintance has bought 5 with the duplex for on coyote rifles.

I second the Tract option. The prices are very competitive. I bought a 2x10 with a .223 BDC reticle and the reticle is a little fine for low light shooting, so I emailed Tract and within 12 hours I had a return email saying I could return it for a refund or apply it to another model. I kept it. It is on a .22lr and I can run it from 50 to 200 and back again and it tracks as it should.

Another sleeper it Meopta. I have a 2x10x42 and it's like looking through a tube with no glass in it. It also tracks well and is also on a .22lr.

If I were thinking about shooting varmints I would definitely look at an illuminated reticle scope - the kind with a red dot in the center. Meopta had some super deals during and after Christmas, but many models are out of stock now.

You can also check the demo/open box/used scopes at Eurooptics and Camera land for some savings. I shoot a good bit at things late in the evening and at night, and it's so important, I will say it again, I recommend an illuminated reticle.

I have an NXS and it's heavy.

As mentioned a committed coyote rig for calling doesn’t usually involve real long ranges.
Depending on where your at and pressure from hunting, I still see a huge majority of dogs killed @200 and under.
Long range, as far as you can spot them and where the hang up, sounds like a lot of educated dogs, that is a far cry from what most callers see. BUT, there are always this instances when one is all you see and it comes in hard, then at the shot you see 1-4 bouncing off in the distance like they popped up out of the ground.
That is more of a cartridge and load and knowing what the rig is capable of without dialing and adjusting.
As mentioned FOV is a big deal, or at least to me.

I have never owned a Vortex but I know two guys that really know their stuff and they are 100% sold on these scopes. Older tasco scopes made in Japan are good. an old leupold m812 x is nice. but they aren't cheap. Older B and L scopes are nice. I like old(er) Japanese glass. But their prices indicate they have been discovered. An older Weaver T10 is pretty high quality. Older 16x redfield. these are if you are on a budget. If not, get a Zeiss, S and B or a Kahles etc. you can spend some money real quick on European glass.
