Varmint Hunter Magazine Memories

For all the former members of the Varmint Hunter Association who collect/ have issues/ wrote articles for the magazine or like old shooters magazines. What articles did you have printed? list issue number and page. I'll look up my list of articles that were printed and post them, I do miss TVHA magazine it was good reading and I made some good friends while a member.

I have the first one ever printed still in the mailer.
I missed the first three issues because I was disappointed previously by The International Varmint Hunter magazine going under and didn’t want to get screwed again by this new VHA group. In hind site I should have got the back issues when I could have.Talk about a Dumb ass!Live and learn I guess.
I wish Wolfe publishing or someone like them would reprint the first three or all of the issues, not from a collectors perspective but just so a fella could read them.
I have all but those first three and refer to my VHA collection often.

Uncle Sugar sent me to FT HOOD TX right before Desert Storm 1990. There l saw my very FIRST prairie dog. l knew then they were TARGETS to be shot. My whole hunting/shooting world changed. No more cold morns sitting in a stand. l had a complete conversion to Varmint Hunting. Twas a religious experience, Next l found THE prayer book-VARMINT HUNTERS MAGAZINE! Like any great prayer book, each VHA Magazine is timeless..

What a shame the magazine went out of business. Amazing that no one has tried again.
Apparently, keeping a print magazine going is a monumental task, what with the internet and ready answers to about any question asked (RIP Precision Shooting too). Personally, I much prefer a print magazine to settle into my chair with a cup of whatever pleases me for an hour or so, and my hounds laying nearby. And NOT staring into a monitor.

I, along with many here, really miss TVHM. Seeing the latest issue in my mailbox was a moment of joy.

100 percent agree. The difference between computer reading and book/magazine/newspaper reading is real.

I took a silly test at work regarding Incident management (like the third time I have had to take the same stupid test over my career) and FAILED. I was ticked. Printed out the material, re-read it and passed 98 percent. Same day.

I always enjoyed reading the magazines, and learned a lot about wildcats and Ackley calibers. It wasn't until about 20 years later that I picked up a 223AI and wished I had one earlier.

Yes, Ned was an interesting person. I wondered about him after he told me about those dogs he had.

This was the last article I wrote for them.

My favorite article was in the 90's and called "Garden Hose for the 500 Yard Club". I have that magazine somewhere. "Somewhere" is the word as a brief look found lots of magazines and I am too sick with Covid right now to focus.

I remember that article --it's good to put a face to the name --I grew up shooting groundhogs here in the hills of WV and now the coyotes have just about eliminated them !!!! so everyone is after the coyotes haha--I hope you get well soon--Roger
