VARGET

I found Varget at the local gun shop that was the good news.
It was priced at $69.99/ pound that was the bad news.
Almost all of the best loads for 6mm BR in the 105-108 GR range seem
to be varget so I just had to grin and pick up two pounds to see if there is any
improvement in groups over the IMR 4895 that I have been loading.
I will be loading and testing as soon as weather allows.
5-8 inches coming in on Friday.

I feel lucky, I found an 8lb jug last week for $268. It’s the first one I’ve seen on the shelf for a long while.
I spotted it a ways off and couldn’t believe what I was seeing, I picked up a gear and fast stepped it the rest of the way.
They had 4 jugs of H4350 also, but had a limit of one powder per visit, I needed Varget worse.

That's a good find, although $70/lb is pretty steep. Keep looking at LGS, it is not uncommon for more than one to receive a shipment of some reloading component within a short time. A LGS near me has gotten in Varget twice during February, both 1 lb and 8 lb. In fact, that particular store will generally put your name on a sticky note and give you a call when some powder you are looking for comes in. It may be worth checking at the LGS in your area to find out whether they might offer such a service.

Price gouging, plus inflation. Two years ago I bought all the varget I need, $26 95 a pound for 1 lb ers same with H4350... primers were $23.95 per thousand ...BR primers only slightly more. So I bought a lifetime supply then...I found that they are charging $150 over their cost for 8 lbs... price gouging.

Well Ray, two years ago seems like a long time gone now.
I wonder what two years FROM now is going to look like!!
Ned,
The owner in this store told me he would not do that because he feels
foot traffic in the store should be rewarded.
He had a jug of RL 17 however that is not on my list.
He had a four LB jug of CFE223 but I have some and have not tested yet.
IMR powder there was 35$-38$.
Had a Ton of 6.5 Berger bullets but no 6mm.

I saw this coming...it's happened before...but not this bad. So I stocked up, from the last shortages, and I have a lifetime supply of most everything I need. I bought thousands of primers, bullets, and cases when the components were on sale. Now ridiculously cheap. Like 8 lbs Varget for $150, and primers were on sale for months for $23.99 per thousand. So yesterday I asked the price of 8 lb jug of H50BMG ... Shelf price was $356... but I could get it for $209 his price, if I wanted. Varget was $10 higher or $366 shelf price that day but wasn't in ...so if I used his purchase price it would be about $216 for 8 lbs of Varget. I saw it on the computer screen he showed me...yesterday. primers are not marked up as much...but on late October 2020 I got CCI BR-4 for $42.99, so I bought many thousands. Just bought 500 225 ELD-M $39 per hundred free shipping.
Just for your information, these sellers are price gouging you

Decades ago never did resellers have 4895 or 748 in NZ and one had to wait for months until it was available again!

New kid on the block was ADI 2208 and the owner of Auckland's premier reloading shop (an Aussie) told me I didn't wanna buy that Aussie shit ! However I did as I figured powder supply from across the ditch from Aussie should be more consistent than powder from the US and it has been so for many years until you Yanks discovered it and won't buy your own powders.

Please give us chaps downunder a break and buy your own stuff so the supply of our 2208, your Varget can return to normal.
TIA
