Varget to IMR 4895

I have been fire forming BRX brass with Varget. To save my Varget for the up coming season, I thought I'd look at using some IMR 4895 that I bought several years ago when everything got hard to find.

I fire form with 31.5g of Varget.

Any suggests of how much IMR 4895 would give similar results?

Thanks!

Look up reloading data for both in your cartridge. Look at the differences across all. That'll give you a good estimate.

Looked on Hodgdon site, Used 6 dasher loads....

IMR 4895 31.3g 2991fps 42,800 CUP
Varget 30.7g 2943fps 43,900 CUP

May just try the same 31.5g of IMR 4895 to fire form?

Makes no sense to me.

H4895 or IMR 4895 are FASTER burning powders than Varget. That means you have to use LESS 4895 than when using Varget.

No clue what an exact amount would be. Guessing if you fireform with 31.5 gr. of Varget I would use something like 30 gr. of 4895 for starters.

Yes because with faster burn rate powders the peak pressure occurs nearer the chamber whereas the slower the powder the further down the tube peak pressure occurs. I would think when fire forming brass you'd want peak to occur inside or as near the case as possible.

I agree, it should be less 4895 than Varget for the same speed/pressure.

If you look at Hodgdon web, you will fine IMR 4895 has higher pressure than H-4895
The original .308 Palma load was H-4895
People have used IMR 4895 and our over 5400 Pressure rated for .308 .
