Varget supplies are getting better....

I picked up an 8 pounder yesterday at a local shop. $21/lb. It was the only one he had and I just happened to stop because I was going right by. I used about 5 lbs. this year. The owner said he has been getting Varget in regularly. That jives with what I saw in Mitchell, SD. Things are getting better.

I just paid $180 for an 8 pounder of H4350. I thought it to be a bit over priced but it was there and I was completely out.

What Varget. Do they still make that stuff?

I haven't seen any on a shelf anywhere since the insanity began.

Just got one from my local distributer today for 145.00!An 8 pounder that is.

SECOND SMALLEST COUNTY IN NORTH CAROLINA (ALEXANDER) HAD VARGET IN OUR WAL-MART TODAY THEY STILL SALE RELOADING SUPPLYS $27.95 1LB HAD SEVERAL DIFF. POWDERS

Mudcat: WalMart in NC carries powder?? I've never seen anything close to a reloading component in a WalMart here in Georgia.

Recobs target shop had 8 pounders last week, $208.53 with shipping and hazmat. That's $26.06 per 1#. I've paid more than that locally for 1# cans.

I was at Shyda's Gun Shop in Lebanon, PA yesterday. They had 10 one pounders on the shelf @$24.99 and three cases of one pounders sitting in the aisle. Also had three 8 pounders on the shelf. But few SR primers; only CCI 450 and some Federal 205's.

I stopped there and bought a 8 pounder, I was standing there when it was put on the shelf. Later that week they had 3 of them and by last Friday, there was none

I recommend to those who are in need of powder, put a couple orders in and you will get it sooner or later. Put one order in with a big name company (Powder Valley, Midway, etc.) then again with a local place near you. When one of them gets it in for you, call the other and cancel the order.
Every thing I have ordered I have received with in 30 to 60 days, (except for some Hornady bullets which they stopped production on until 2014). That's primers, powder, bullets, everything... "Order and it will come" !.!.!

So how do YOU place orders for out of stock items at Powder Valley? Did they change their backorder policy?

Midway won't even accept an order now for Varget. Only takes "requests to notify when in".

Most of the "big name suppliers" have suspended backorders because of advice just like this.

I placed an order with Bruno's several months back for an 8# Varget. Received an email from them last week that they will be getting a shipment this week and did I still want it, of course my answer is yes. I also picked up a little bit from Third Generation a short time back when they received a shipment.

It is trickling in you've just got to be lucky and be in the right place at the right time.

I guess "getting better" means last long enough on the storefront inventory for me to put in my shopping cart, but gone by the time I hit "checkout."

<> Place an order and find out

Midway won't even accept an order now for Varget. Only takes "requests to notify when in".
<> There you go

<> Pure speculation on your part. A vindictive rumor at best.

I placed an order at powder valley for some items that were not in stock and today I get an email that says my order has been cancelled

Monday I was talking to a shooter that traveled back to Camp Perry. Took his time and stopped in just about every gun shop or "Big Box" along the way. Found just about everything he needed only it was "a pound here and a box there". Said that there was no rhyme or reason to it. Some out of the way areas had plenty and big towns had nothing.

Seems like we'll have to start traveling around like scavengers if things don't lighten up.

I know that powder factories haven't shut down but it would sure be interesting to know where they're shipping their product.

As far as Varget goes.... Half the problem is the knuckle heads using it as their 55 gr FMJ, AR15 blasting ammo powder. :o

I can't tell you how many "Which powder?" threads I've read for AR shooters where about half of the replies are "VARGET!!"

There's a half dozen other powders that perform as good or better in the AR, and meter MUCH more consistently.

Markm87, I think that it's more like 83% of which powder threads are resolved with VARGET, VARGET, VARGET!!! Leaves more of the other powders for me. ;D

That's true. ;D When it comes to those 55 gr blaster loads... there was a manufacturor on thefiringline gun forum who was testing barrel treatments or finishes for a company....

He found that the combination of relatively slow Varget, and light bullets like the 55 gr increased gas port erosion monumentally. He was seeing visible erosion in Xrays at about 2k rounds vs. 7k plus with an appropriate bullet/powder combination.
