Varget question re Temp Sensitivity

Probably 10 years ago on this website I read an article about powders and temp stability and it stated that varget was very temp stable in most normal shooting conditions...but that they had found that varget was strange in the fact that in cold weather it could actually show more pressure...does anyone know where I could find that article or one that disputes that info

Much of the "OLD" information ; say ten years back or more , in many cases , is no longer accurate because many of these powders have been re-formulated . One I know of that has been re-formulated at least five times since it was developed for military use in 1952 / 53 is what we know today as 4064 . Accurate , IMR and Hodgens all have 4064 in their stable , and it is a different powder formula from each manufacturer . With slightly different qualities . Always good to look for the most current info on this subject . Like the data provided above .

With regards to this Varget claim, I also heard it about 10-15 years ago, probably from the same root source as the article the OP is referencing, but it never matched up with experiences. At the time, I had a lot of data from 32F through 100F.

In general, I think a lot of these claims start with 1 guy's experience and it gets echoed by many as if they experienced it too. I don't know if that's the case with this particular Varget claim, I'm just always a skeptic looking for other possible causes. The root cause may have been a carbon ring causing his high pressure that day, or he was shooting in the rain and had wet ammo, or he forgot to re-calibrate his electronic scale, but now it's pushed as if it's gospel.

Yeah varget is definitely less temp sensitive than others, but still effected by hot weather (particularly over say 40 deg Celsius)
