Varget Powder Availability?

PM Sent
Another PM Sent

The irony of this post is that I have been buying Varget here in CALIFORNIA for a couple of months now. I'd expect it to be easier to get anywhere other than the left coast.

I'm in the same boat looking for Varget. Anyone want to share some spots online to stalk?

http://www.natchezss.com/
http://www.grafs.com/
http://www.brownells.com/
http://www.midwayusa.com/

http://ammoseek.com/ is a great way to check everywhere, but I don't think their powder avaiability data is real-time.

Josh you have the normal places listed. Good luck finding Varget any time soon unless someone sells to you face to face and you will pay a premium for it

Seems that availability of powder is worse now than a month or two back. Even pistol (or shotgun) powders are getting tough to find. Maybe once the vendors get through annual inventory we will start seeing a bit more coming through.

Bill...

I've ben hunting some for about 6 months with no success. I have backorders everywhere and just got a rejection notice from Powder Valley today.

Friends say I should use 8208 or H4350 in my Dasher. Yeah right. You can't get that either.

The day is quickly coming when my club shoots will end because of this. Obama wins?

If there is a plus side to the lack of Varget it got me working with other powders I had. With some recent loads I had started and ended with Varget. Never venturing away from it. Much to my surprise when forced to try others some of the results were surprisingly great.

what other powders have you tried to replace varget??

What I've noticed is that the online stores are almost always "out of stock" and the smaller and mom & pop stores have Varget and have had it for 4 months now. One store in particular near here limits how much you can walk out the door with. The supervisor there said that that policy only irritates the hoarders, but he'd rather lose the one hoarder and keep the next 30 customers happy and coming back. :D

As a previous poster noted, there are other powders out there that will work as well and in some cases better than Varget. A likely candidate would be 4064 from my experience. WD

it's so strange I walk into a local Ace Hardware & I find cci4 50's and IM R 4831 plus long shot, Bill C 2 and numerous other powers,I can't figure it out.

One our our local gun shops has had 1 pounders on the shelf, and quite a few of them. I have pretty much been phasing out Hodgdon powders due to supply. I have swapped most of my varget loads to IMR 4064 since I just picked up 2 #8

I thought lohmanarms had varget in stock but it was $200+ dollars. I feel there gouging, for that price I would buy #1 pounders locally.

4064, H4895, & Reloader 15 (a powder I had never tried but was available). 4064 was the star of the group.
A real surprise (related to 'lack of powder and bullets' was used strictly to fire form 30BR. Never expected it to do much except 'fire'. 2015 pushing 110gr new carbine bullets. I was out of everything I needed and put that together mainly to go and shoot something, and at 100 yards those ugly bullets and a powder I never used before put together an amazing group. If and when Varget ever becomes available sure I'll buy it, but the lack of it got me trying things I never would have. I guess my point was I was forced to use different powders and not to use up the little that I had in stock. Some pleasing results.

+1 on the mom & pop shops. My local guy has (had?) 4-8 pound jugs & several 1 pound'ers. Problem is he can't ship that I'm aware of. I'd think a little leg work through the yellow pages for local, small shops might produce results....maybe? ???
