Varget Load for 100 grain 243 Win Bullet

Anyone have a source I can use to determine if and what load of Varget I can try for the 100 Grain Speer btsp in the .243 Win. that would include min. and max. as well as velocity?

http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

Bullet 100 GR. SPR BTSP
Powder Hodgdon Varget
Caliber .243
COL 2.300"
Grains 34.0 Velocity 2829 Pressure 53,600 PSI
Grains 36.6 Velocity 2981 Pressure 62,100 PSI

Start LOW - move up SLOW

Yea...that is kinda what my concern was. Those pressures look very high at the top load so I probably will need to pass. It is just that I love Varget so much and use it in so many of my reloading combinations.

I appreciate the load information.

You can use Varget ... it is to fast of burning powder for a 100gr bullet in a 243-Win.
Good luck regardless,
Donovan

I'm not fond of Varget for the heavier bullets either, Donovan. But I haven't done any work ups with other powders yet. I've most recently tried a few with H4895 and they seem to work. But I'm wondering what powder you might suggest for that weight/caliber combination.

You can use Varget with a 100gr bullet if you so choose (or if that is all you have do to the shortages) but in actuality it is to fast of burning powder for a 100gr bullet in a 243-Win.
Great for the 58 to 75's, but slow velocity at early pressures for the heavier bullets in a 243.

Good luck regardless,
Donovan

Total agree with the above - you would be much better served using IMR 4350, H 4350, IMR 4831 or R19 (i.e. slower burning powders) for this bullet weight.

I picked up a pound of Reloader 19 today to play with... Seems like a very versatile .243 powder. Never used Aliant powders before. Was using H100V today which seems a bit better than Win 780 did but still not up to my standards yet. R19 could be it...time will tell. 8)

Spot on. Usually we use 2209 for 85+gr projectiles or 2213SC. 2208[Varget] too quick for heavier projectiles. Remember 243 is overbore and you want a powder to fully burn.
