Varget and temperature sensitivity.

Work up a load with 3031 in the winter take it to the range mid summer and see the difference. Believe me it may not be pretty.

IMR powders are owned by Hodgdon and when they developed 8208 xbr it was made to be temp. insensitive same as H4895, H4350 and H4831 and Varget. So what is the big deal? …… jim

These might help...

IMR 8208 XBR
IMR 8208
IMR 8208 XBR The latest in the versatile IMR line of fine propellants, this accurate metering, super short grained extruded rifle powder was designed expressly for match, varmint, and AR sniper cartridges. Ideally suited for cartridges like the 223 Remington/5.56mm, 308 Winchester/7.62mm NATO and the 6mm PPC, shooters will find IMR 8208 XBR totally insensitive to changes in temperature, while yielding max velocities and “tack driving” accuracy. Clearly, the competitor’s “choice” and the Varmint Hunter’s “dream powder”.

ADI make 2208 sold by Hodgdon as Varget
AR2206H as H4895
AR2209 as H4350
AR2213sc as H4831
8208 as 8208xbr
Trail Boss as Trail Boss
ADI is Australian Defence Industries owned by Thales operating in Lithgow NSW

I looked every where to find the chart by hodgdon but i can't seem to turn it up i will keep looking. but it did show 8208xbr as the lowest. I do know it will work in the Dasher.I never load ahead anyway so it never was an issue. My only concern is the one that shoots the best, not the one that i can load in the winter and shoot in the summer….jim

For IMR-8208 XBR, look at:

http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2010/01/shot-show-report-hodgdon-talks-about-imr-8208-xbr/

Other than on temperature stability, I get the feeling that early lots of 8208 are faster burning than current ones. Chris Hodgdon is recently reported as saying it is slightly slower burning than H4895. (ADI though still shows it as lying between H322 and H4895.)

The IMR moniker is misleading as it's an Australian manufactured ADI product alongside H4895, VarGet, H4350 etc. The Aussie title is BENCH MARK 8208 and loads data has now been incorporated into the company's 2013 data guide which supplements Hodgdon's data and is worth having for those ADI powders which have a Hodgdon equivalent. It can be downloaded as a pdf file

Laurie, You are right with the latter lot being slower than the original . With it falling in the range of H4895 makes ideal for the Dasher as Sally found out last year and she did well with it …….. jim
