Valdada 40x or March 48x

For short range benchrest, which would be your pick and why. Valdada or March

I really like my valdadas. I definitely don’t feel like I’m leaving anything on the table when I sit down at the line. I’ve never used a 48 HM but there’s a lot of guys swear by them. I don’t think you could go wrong with either.

I've never had a March 48. But I had both Valadas 36x and 40x I like the 36 much better than the 40 so I sold it. I can't imagine you wouldn't be happy with either.

So, I have both actually 2 valdada and 2 HM 48
I have had two other valdadas that i sold years back. (wish I hadnt)

Some of the valdadas are darker than others, also they are a 40mm objective so they are a little darker anyway

The HM is great glass 52 mm objective and really bright, noticeably more than the valdada

I have been shooting both for several years. I think the valdada shoots smaller than the HM or I would sell them and go to the HM

I have 2 Valdada 36s that I bought used for less than $900. This was 6-8 years ago when everybody and their dog was on the "I hate Val and Valdada" bandwagon. FWIW- I think the Valdada 36s are unmatched for 100-200y benchrest. Just shot the recent VFS Nationals with one.

That said, I don't think a new Valdada 40 is worth the asking price. At that price point, like Tim, I think the March 48X HM is the smarter buy. I have two. Good luck.

I have a Valdada 36x that my only complaint with is the reticle is a tad thick. It is a tad heavy for a 36x scope.

I also have three 48x HM Marches. In my opinion, both are rock solid.

However, for what it’s worth, my favorite VFS Rifle has a NF 15x55 Competition on it.

First thing and most important is, try to look through both and see what YOU like.
Then go from there.
Scopes are very different from person to person.

I absolutely love my Valdada 36Xs. Maybe my favorite scopes. I looked through a 40X and liked it too, but for almost double the price I paid for my 36X I just couldn’t justify the cost.

I also have a 48X HM that I’m really happy with. I think you would be happy with either but also suggest you find someone with those scopes that’ll let you check them out, so you can decide for yourself if you have a preference.
