V4 Auto Trickler

I’m curious to hear from folks who have personally used one of these. I’m considering ordering one but have viewed some online videos that have highlighted some problems with getting it adjusted. Since I’m old and technologically challenged, I don’t really want to invest the money if it’s no quicker and more accurate than my existing process. I guess that I’m asking for reviews. Thanks in advance.

I have one and it works well with my powders:

Varget
H4350
Shooters World Precision
4064

It generally drops 40'ish grain charges in 8 seconds. I'm happy with it, but I will likely sell mine in the near future because of the reliance on a phone app. I have work related restrictions on what I can put on my phone, and unapproved 3rd party apps, and don't want to buy another device.

My experience has been with the V3. It needed some tweaking for it to operate perfectly. By "some tweaking" I mean about 5-10 test drops. I don't see why the V4 wouldn't be any better.

You will need a bit of patience but once set up it is a good unit. I don't think you can operate the unit without the app, so you will need an updated smart phone.

I don't think this will work, but somebody will chime in to confirm if you can drop the powder in yourself and let the auto trickler take over.

I just use my old phone or the tablet I use with my Shotmarker. Yes, it will be faster and very possibly more accurate than your existing method. It is very simple to set up.

It works. I've put a pan on that was just under the desired weight, and it immediately started to trickle it up to the desired load.

I've got the V3 and V4. The V3 is faster than the V4 whenever you get the throw dialed in right, but it's a pain to switch between big and small cases to me- never had used a powder throw before. The setup ends up being about a wash for me. One option I would look at would be the chargemaster lite. I had one and sold it but I'm about to buy another for range trips. It wasn't as accurate as the A&D, but it still was good enough for what I needed.

I have a V-3 with all the Bells and 409 add on stuff . Use my tablet from my Shotmarker.
It does throw a wild load now and then. I use H-4350 and Varget .
I do spend time adding or removing a grain often.

Does this happen with the V-4 ???

I love mine. It’s a great upgrade from V3 which could be finicky when changing powders. The trickler flow in V3 was fine adjusted by the trickler level. I had one of the early V 3’s so I would set it level then use a business card or two to adjust the trickler fine flow.

V4 solves all those problems and it was easy to set up. The instructions are pretty detailed so just complete them carefully.

I load match rifle rounds with it and I tend to use stick powders. I use my dillon for pistol as I don’t see the need for that kind of V4 precision for pistol.

My .02.

V3, V4, IP Trickler, SuperTrickler, it doesn't matter. There is NO powder thrower/trickler system on the market that WON'T throw a wild charge once in a while if speed is your goal, it's the nature of powder kernels. However every system I mentioned IS capable of nearly perfect throws if you sacrifice speed.
To the OP's questions, the V4 is 100% worth it if you work between a lot of different powders and charge weights because of how it works. If you only do a couple cartridges and don't plan on expand on that, maybe stick with the v3.

On the notion of a kernel lost here or there, here's a great example of how to view this idea that SuperTrickler has in their owners manual.

"The trade-off between speed and failures.
Powder and granules are notoriously difficult to dispense. Given enough time, you can slowly trickle the powder for an accurate charge every time. However, is this the best approach?
The trade-off: You can go fast and have a few failures every now and then or go slow and rarely have a failed charge. We are all different, so the choice is yours. You may prefer to charge fast and discard overcharges, or you may prefer to charge slower and rarely discard overcharges.
Do not expect 100% successful charges, unless you want to trade dispensing speed for time.
If you were to do 100 charges at no failures, but each charge was 20 seconds, the total time would be 33 minutes and 20 seconds.
Now let’s look at the same scenario if each charge took only 6 seconds, but with a 1 in 10 failure rate. The total time would be 11 minutes, a saving of 22 minutes and 20 seconds.
Even if the charge time was 10 seconds, with a 1 in 10 failure rate, the total time would still only be 18 minutes and 20 seconds. This is a 15 minute saving in time for the sake of a few rejected overshoots. Do not be concerned with a few overshoots if you can save considerable time, but the decision is yours."

Buy a cheap tablet at Wal-Mart..... Or sell it to me cheap..... You don't have to use a phone...

I have old iPhones and iPads that I use for this and my LABRADAR and such instead my everyday cellphone. They stay at the ready all the time. Im sure you can put the app on a computer too.

I've had the V3 autothrow and trickler ever since it came out. I could never get it consistent to drop. Either too short or over. May get 3 in a row on target. Charging a 100 cases, it's a pita. I delt with it by adding a dandy electric trickler beside it for the final drop. The round powder trickler tubes have been around forever and always been a finesse to make them work.

This past spring, I got on the Ingenuity Trickler wait list to give it a try. I finally got it a month or so ago. It's absolutely amazing. Not perfect, but close enough to be consistent enough to remove frustration from charging cases. It's a shame the Autothrow V3 is no longer made because the pair is about the best its going to get. The V4 uses the same old cylindrical tube to trickle powder. It will never drop a kernel at a time, lol.

Well I took the plunge. Bought the V4 from a member here who stated he only had it a short and is basically new. Ordered the scale from Old Will Knott Scales. Received a notice that the scale will be delivered tomorrow. Never knew FedEx made Sunday deliveries. Must be because of the holiday season. I am very excited. This will be one of my early Christmas presents to myself. I have a Galaxy S10E phone. Anyone know what program I need for it?

V3, ingenuity dispenser, two powder cups.

If you’re coordinated enough and can focus it’ll keep you busier than you wanna be. Keep the funnel moving!! Better have zero distractions and attention to detail like a monk. Like shooting hoops at Dave and Busters.

Two powder cups are only good if they weigh exactly the same. That is if I understand you meaning.

My A&D scale arrived today. I was lucky enough to get it in the house without being discovered.

After I anxiously opened the box and put the scale together, the first problem was trying to level it. Could use longer adjustment screws. I will work this out.

The biggest problem is the supplied book of so called instructions. The merely tell you how to put it together but give no meaningful information on anything else. There are nine large type pages and then it switches to another language. Sooner or later, I will figure out how to used this thing but it won't be easy. All I need now is the delivery of my V4 trickler. While I have already downloaded the file on the V4, I just now decided to print it to make it easier to follow.

Anyone know what program is available to use on a tablet to control the V4?
