August 20, 2005: Fort Pierre, South Dakota
At first glance, our conditions for this shoot looked promising. The winds were light and the temperature was fairly mild. We soon found out that they were a little more challenging. Nothing seemed to stay consistent. Left-to-right became right-to-left in a matter of seconds. The mirage seemed to be our biggest adversary. Those shooters who were able to read it seemed to do the best in the end. Consequently, our average group sizes were larger than our June shoot.
We had a three-way tie for overall winner in the LG class. Jeff Rheborg was able to take top honors due to his smaller group aggregate. Jeff also set a new club record for a single target group. It measured 2.305",44). Glen Sterling took second overall. Richard Schatz took third and set a new single target score record of 50,3.290").
John Griswold managed to make a clean sweep of the HG class. Glen Sterling finished second and Jeff Rheborg was third. Richard Schatz managed to set a new single target score record of 52,4.262").
Glen Sterling was able to finally break his streak of finishing second by taking all honors in the V.H.A. Stock class. He also broke five records: Single target group and score - 3.351",50), Match Group aggregate - 6.890",172), Three-Gun match group and score aggregates - 5.895",528). Elmer Miller finished second and Frank Halligan was third.
One match remains in the season. On October 1, we'll be holding our club championships. Additional points are up for grabs. Some of the races for top honors are fairly close. It will be interesting to see how things shake out.
