V Block or glass bed?

I had two Whidden blocks put in for my Remington clones in McM stocks. The theory sounds good and they work well, but it was quite a bit more hassle to get them installed than I anticipated. In retrospect, I think you should recognize that most good smiths are going to do an outstanding job traditionally bedding your rifle. It took a while for my smith to get the V-block right and ended up costing a bit more. I'll stick with a traditional bedding in the future...or buy a stock with an integral v-block.

I have a .308 in an H-S Precision PST025 with a Pierce short repeater action installed. The rifle shoots unreasonably well and has never moved zero. My torque wrench settings are per H-S recommendations, 65 lb-in.

I would do both. I think the advantage of the aluminum bedding blocks is to significantly strengthen/stiff the stock, and the coupling of the receiver to the stock. Devcon bedding on the other hand improves the fit between the receiver and the stock, but does not improve the strength/stiffness of the stock.

I received my Whidden V Block today. I will be doing the installation myself. I have a small wood work shop where I make custom wood Grips/Forearms for Contenders and Encores. After looking through their instructions I dont think the installation will be a problem. If it doesnt perform to my liking I will also bed the action.

This set made from Burl Maple. The Barron Grip not to ever body's liking but it really feels good in the hand and very shootable.

This is a Get-A-Grip, good for absorbing recoil.

This is a one and only stock I made for a tender rifle.
