do any of you fine gentlemen have any experiance with renewal by andersen window replacement i would like hear about them thanks dave in wyo

Buddy of mine just had all his replaced. He went with Window World. He had Anderson and K Designs quote him as well. They were both around $20k higher! The difference is the Window World windows are 93% efficient vs 97% for the other two. That’ll save you about $5 a month on your energy bills.

Just before I retired from my building career in Pa./De., Anderson Replacement had started their big push to take over the window replacement business. I bid against them 4 times and beat their price by half. 2 of the jobs I used Anderson Windows ordered from my local Lumber Yard. Watch yourself with them.

I ended up using Marvin widows for a whole house project. They weren't cheap but I wanted fiberglass frames instead of vinyl. Never got a quote from Anderson because the sales rep. wouldn't stop running his mouth and I threw him out of the house.

I believe all of the big names source their glass from the same manufacturer. Only the frames are different. What I read on the internet so it has to be true.

I’m in construction, deal with windows, suppliers and sub contractors all the time. I would get at least 3-4 bids, even if your set on using Anderson Windows I’d still get multiple bids especially if your having them give you a price for windows and the labor to install them. If your just getting quotes for windows only the pricing won’t vary as much as a labor and install bid. The internet can be your friend if your dealing with a supplier or contractor you know very little about, if you find a bunch of negative comments and experiences you may want to dig deeper or find someone else. When I’m in an area that is new I will talk to the local building dept to get their opinion on a sub I know nothing about, that doesn’t apply to suppliers of course. If you can wait a year or so materials are coming back down, at least some are. I have a project I’m doing now that was delayed because the architect was securing the permit, window prices dropped over 12% in the last 5 months for that project and those windows. Big commercial job. Good luck.

I installed a Marvin window for a friend one time. Since the install I put all new Marvin replacement windows in my house. They are expensive but very good windows. Might look at Sierra Pacific ( not sure they do replacements) also Matt risinger on the “BUILD” show (YouTube) has some info on euro windows / (European Architectural Supply) . They are triple pane and if I build again I’d take a hard look at them. https://www.eas-usa.com/

Stay away they arent very truthful. They once told me they worked for Anderson so I called anderson and they told me know. A local contractor is a way better bet with referrals.

I worked in the glass business for over 30 years. Mostly commercial, but also residential custom showers enclosures and mirrors. We would do glass replacement on residential windows occasionally. Triple pane and argon fill are a joke! Residential windows aren’t very thick. A triple pane doesn’t gain any substantial insulation value over a double pain. The added cost of argon, will take 20 years to pay for itself in any gain. Low E coating is nice, for ultraviolet light transfer. However, residential windows put it on a different surface then used in commercial windows. I’m not sure why they do that. I bought a house less than 20 years old. Every window with direct sunlight was fogged from seals going bad. This is because of the location of the low E coating.

Local Window World company installed all new hurricane glass windows in my house in SC two years ago. Real good quality replacement windows at a decent price and excellent service. Granted the service is provided by the local franchise company but the window quality should be the same nationwide. Fortunately in Wyoming you won’t need hurricane glass but it is a good idea to opt for the heavy duty metal latch hardware.

Window World used a window in there adds that is not popular but in the deep south, called an awning window. This add ran for 8 or 10 years and pictured the awning window upside down. I like josh was in this business and I thought that i would never let them near my house if the whole company could look at that add for years and years and no one notice that it was upside down.

Are you saying that they had it opening from the top, and swung outside? There are windows that open from the top and swing in. They are not awning windows, they are called hopper windows. I’d be curious to see this ad, because I’m not very familiar with Window World. I would recommend to the op and others to also look into Kolbe & Kolbe windows. They’re very popular up north, and made in Wisconsin. Also as Dusty mentioned, hire a good contractor who can install quality windows for you.

Don’t believe all the talk that there is not much difference in quality. There is. Anderson or Pella windows for quality. I went with Anderson. My contractor installed them.

Never considered “Renewal by Anderson.” I don’t want someone picking a contractor for me.

They had the panes hinged at the bottom and opening at the top to funnel rain into the house. Building in my world is so different than anywhere I've been. I've been working on my parents' house in North GA. It has Reverse board and batten plywood siding, That was installed in the early 80s. None has even been replaced, in south Florida, most of it would be rotten and replaced years ago. I can't even imagine a house with a window that is named a hopper window.
