USPS troubles

I will continue to send USPS. My experiences with USPS have been minor disruptions in the final scheme of things.

So true. I get 2 day delivery from pick up from my mailbox in Ames of Iowa to Hawaii. How can you bitch about THAT?

I recently sent a pricey package to someone in CT who had moved. We both called the PO where it was supposed to go to and asked them to hold it for pickup. They ended up sending it back to me so I re-sent to the new place. All's swell that ends swell.

When I went to file an insurance claim with USPS they wanted to depreciate the lost bullets. I mentioned the only time the price of a bullet depreciates is after they go down the barrel. The bullets were 700 of the legendary old fat Eubers, probably made in the 80's. Try to replace those. I lost my a$$ on that deal as I only had $100 of insurance.

Does the tracking number have a pre-planned route built into it? If so, maybe have your PO call those in the route and find out WTH is going on.

Jim Borden says that USPS is investigating and he has sent out another one. Hope it makes it here . I cant use fedex or ups due to their crazy brokerage fees for anything that crosses the border

What's even worse is when you order something online and they won't let you ship to a P.O. BOX. then when it gets to town the shipper drops it off at the P.O.. wtf?? Happens all the time

Same thing with say collectible coins. If you can't document the value of what you shipped then they go by some sort of generic value. Sucks.

You can in part thank Amazon for "surepost" UPS and "smartpost" Fedex
Amazon used to give so much volume to each, Amazon wanted a cheaper way to send their pkgs. ( so they kissed Amazons ass )
So we pickup the "surepost" pkgs from all over the country, sort and del. to the appropriate Post Office. (In my area, we deliver thousands to the P.O. everyday)
Saves money, but causes a day or two delay for you.

I print all my shipping labels out on paypal with barcodes. If you don't do paypal, you can do it on stamps.com or USPS.com. paypal gives you a little discount they have negotiated with USPS.

I had an ebay business for years and have shipped over 20,000 domestic packages printed this way and never lost a one. A few were delayed but none lost.

I strongly recommend a barcoded label.

I also recommend you print it out yourself. The USPS clerk will often "improve" the address to get it into a format that their computer database likes, sometimes resulting in a misdelivery of the package.

After several snafu's with UPS I changed to the post office. My first real problem started last month 9/13/2019. I sent a rest top to Arizona and it made it, but the route person said he couldn't read the address and returned it. If you follow the tracking it is going back and forth in Texas. I've talked to consumer affairs a couple times and they said they would fix it, but no, it is still circulating in Texas. When I left to go out of state last Thursday our post lady handed me a box and said they had finally returned it to me. I did send a replacement to him earlier and he received it. I didn't pay attention to the one returned until I got back in town. Wow! This is not the lost one.
Below if you click on it you might see what is happening.

My postmaster is a friend and has been tearing his hair out over this.

A ping pong ball doesn't see that many miles in it's life. LOL

Ok, got that beat but USPS was not involved.

Bought a bass boat on E-Bay. Located in Wisconsin, it was an 8 ft plastic two man pond type. Seller put it on a truck for delivery to my home in Tx. Expected in 3 days, great!

Got as far as Chicago and then disappeared.

A week later I call the seller, it's not here. Where is it? He put a tracer on it.

Got a call several days later, guy with HEAVY asian accent says " This boat arrive in Singapore today, did I want it shipped to TX, USA?

So it was air freighted back to US and delivered to me via truck. I think that's about 19,000 miles by air for a boat that cost me $450. That had to hurt!

The first thing I do when I do my own label/s is go to usps.com and look up the address and get the zip+4 and proper address format like Southfield DR instead of Southfield drive for example. I use PayPal and print my labels from www.paypal.com/shipnow You can use the USPS click n ship also which allows you to print labels for regional rate boxes whereas PP does not. Stamps.com costs subscription money.

BTW are you Jerry from the Newport Beach coin boards? If so, that prezbuck never did get here.

My nephew just got in a new off-road forklift. (they are made for beekeepers) It only came with one gallon of fuel in it. All of the ones we have bought in the past came with at least a half tank of fuel in them (you darn sure do not want to run a diesel out of fuel) He called the company and asked why. They told him they put a new forklift on a truck one time and the driver used someone else's $40,000 forklift to load and unload his truck for almost a month before he brought it to them.

Amazon's in house delivery system sucks. I've about quit doing business with them because of it.

Having been a UPS driver for 34 yrs. (just retired) I can tell you stories...
First, I find 90% of the problems with UPS are preventable with proper packaging and labeling.
Having said that, you will only hear of the lost or damaged pkg not the other 99.9%
With UPS you get the first $100 in insurance free and all but next day and 2nd air pkgs get handled the same.
The USPS is another animal. Best thing to do is put some insurance on your package.
They will take better care and gets better handling.
Remember, a couple extra pieces of tape and packing, plus a few dollars of insurance will go a long way
and cause you a lot less headaches.

I have put insurance on more valuable items because there is no other choice, however, I truly believe this is CRAZY!
I am trusting a company and paying them to perform a service, to carry and deliver an item for me, why is it necessary to pay you more to do your job correctly?
Is there any other business anywhere that you have to pay them extra to do there job correctly? Seriously!

I ordered some old stock bullets, the package showed up late and destroyed and re taped in a way that I am not sure how anything stayed in it.
I opened it to find 2/3 of the order missing and someone's medication, with shipping label addressed to somewhere else on it, in my box of bullets.
I sure hope they did not need that medication for anything serious. I took it to the local post office immediately, but who knows where it went from there.

Personally, I would rather have to wait weeks for a delivery if I was assured that it would be received in one piece.

I cant tell you how many items show up damaged!

My buddy has a doorbell camera showing the postal worker throwing a package about 20 onto the porch! Show some pride in your work!

ok, rant over.

Carriers offer insurance to indemnify themselves against loss, theft, damage, etc. There are places that offer "private" policies which may or may not pay unless you do a lot of shipping. Usually you have to ship the items the way they tell you to.

Ive got a trigger gaurd from Borden that dissapeared on the 25 of august i think . The tracking number just says in route to next facility.
I have a package that did the same thing on October 4. I wonder if I'll ever get it?

Is that the bullets that I got and didn't order? chuckle chuckle
Had our 58th High School Reunion last weekend. Ran in to an old Buddy. Went to his play shop to look at some of his toys. His first love is dirt track cars. He has Lloyd Ruby, Jim McElreath, and an AJ Foyt sprint car. All three are like brand new. He just rolled out his 30 ModelA with a stroker, super charger and 2 650s. Old school chopped and channeled. He also had a 2010 Indy E racecar built by Boeing Aircraft. Went around the corner to his house and he has 3 acres of dirt cars, old cars, and speed boats. It is what I call an eclectic collections. We didn't have time to see all of his old cars and race cars on 59 acres that he said he had to buy after his 3 story old city building was full of his good stuff and the little muni airport he bought to house his 5 airplanes and more car stuff. If I hadn't seen what we did and the photos of the rest, I would have never believed. He did dig out an old 348 with Tripower for a another Buddy to install in his 1959 ElCamino.
Gives me an excuse to go back.

I clicked on the link. 19 stops and counting. Amazing. At least the tracking system works even if the delivery system doesn’t. 50% is really pretty good for a government agency!
