USPS troubles

After several snafu's with UPS I changed to the post office. My first real problem started last month 9/13/2019. I sent a rest top to Arizona and it made it, but the route person said he couldn't read the address and returned it. If you follow the tracking it is going back and forth in Texas. I've talked to consumer affairs a couple times and they said they would fix it, but no, it is still circulating in Texas. When I left to go out of state last Thursday our post lady handed me a box and said they had finally returned it to me. I did send a replacement to him earlier and he received it. I didn't pay attention to the one returned until I got back in town. Wow! This is not the lost one.
Below if you click on it you might see what is happening.
https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction?tRef=fullpage&tLc=2&text28777=&tLabels=9534611327039256373795 After this comes up click on the tracking history.
My postmaster is a friend and has been tearing his hair out over this.

When a postal package gets derailed, it will travel back and forth between two locations indefinitely because the system is automated. Only a real person can stop this and get the package
back on track. Been there. LDS

Larry, I've spoken to my post master, the Pfluegerville, tx post master, and to the same consumer affairs twice. All of these folks say they have put the word out to grab it and send it back to me.
I don't know where to go. My postmaster is really doing all he can.

Pretty frustrating Butch. At least it didn't disapear. They lost 2 different bullet packages I sent out in the past. Both times lost in Dallas....WTF

I avoid USPS like the plague. Only time I use them for shipping is because it's the only option IE: cigars to CA.

Is that the bullets that I got and didn't order? chuckle chuckle
Had our 58th High School Reunion last weekend. Ran in to an old Buddy. Went to his play shop to look at some of his toys. His first love is dirt track cars. He has Lloyd Ruby, Jim McElreath, and an AJ Foyt sprint car. All three are like brand new. He just rolled out his 30 ModelA with a stroker, super charger and 2 650s. Old school chopped and channeled. He also had a 2010 Indy E racecar built by Boeing Aircraft. Went around the corner to his house and he has 3 acres of dirt cars, old cars, and speed boats. It is what I call an eclectic collections. We didn't have time to see all of his old cars and race cars on 59 acres that he said he had to buy after his 3 story old city building was full of his good stuff and the little muni airport he bought to house his 5 airplanes and more car stuff. If I hadn't seen what we did and the photos of the rest, I would have never believed. He did dig out an old 348 with Tripower for a another Buddy to install in his 1959 ElCamino.
Gives me an excuse to go back.

Butch Ive had a few problems with USPS as of lately as well. The packages made it but they where all late and ended up being shipped way off route. My friends wife shipped a very expensive camera back to NY. Somehow the person she sold it to got her money back from PayPal after it had been shipped. She went down and payed again to have the package stopped and sent back to her. In the end they made two attempts to deliver it too the so called purchaser and she got it on the second time. USPS will not do anything even though she paid to stop it and it also had insurance on it both times.

I have had excellent service from the USPS. Not to say perfect,
but nothing is. My route carrier is worth her weight in gold. If the entire system worked like her, it would be flawless. I've had packages temporarily lost, had a couple stolen, but for the most part, they have made my delivery time look really good. LDS

Cigars to California? Nancy Pelosi has identified them as a wildfire hazard!

I use USPS often and haven’t experienced any real problems yet. It is frustrating though to watch the tracking history and wondering why a package has had six destinations in Michigan in opposite directions. I did watch the tracking on a package that went to Detroit, then back to Sarnia, Ontario (opposite directions ) then to Windsor, Ontario (opposite again ) then to Toronto, Ontario then to Saskatchewan (talk about opposite directions ), so Poste Canada is no better.

Butch, sorry to hear this, Larry is right, the USPS has automated so much in last 20 years that sometimes the machines just take over, I worked for them as a mechanic in a distribution center for 21 years and I still remember my first reaction upon reporting. The place was like a auto manufacturing plant in machines and automation, but 5 stories of belts, towveyers, robots, and lots of other machines. I had been a mechanic with the U.S. Navy for 20 years and couldn't believe my eye's it was so much automation.

I have had dealings with the Texas distribution center and it was one of the worst, never did understand why but they would let a piece of machinery stay broken and just throw manpower at the problem instead of repair it, like a towveyer broken for over a year and they just get more forklifts to move the equipment the towveyer used to haul through the building.

Hope it finds a way back, but over 100 million pieces a day it's a crap shoot.

Having been a UPS driver for 34 yrs. (just retired) I can tell you stories...
First, I find 90% of the problems with UPS are preventable with proper packaging and labeling.
Having said that, you will only hear of the lost or damaged pkg not the other 99.9%
With UPS you get the first $100 in insurance free and all but next day and 2nd air pkgs get handled the same.
The USPS is another animal. Best thing to do is put some insurance on your package.
They will take better care and gets better handling.
Remember, a couple extra pieces of tape and packing, plus a few dollars of insurance will go a long way
and cause you a lot less headaches.

Same problem I have. Tracking seems to stop at the Mesquite TX hub. Then gets lost for a couple of day's. Then reappears in there tracking system days later. And then no more tracking until recipient receives it. And this is USPS .

We recently ordered 3 Seakeeper gyro stabilizers. They were shipped LTL, the trucking company lost one along the way. These are in plywood crates about 4'x4'x4', retail is $39,000 per and they lost one. Took them over a week to find it. Fortunately, Seakeeper sent us a replacement so we could proceed with the install. Can't blame the labeling or the packaging on this one. The freight company even puts their tracking labels on the packages.

USPS doesn't always deliver bills on time. When I lived in a condo, I was the treasurer and had to pay the COA bills. More than once I had to play late fees because the bill was delivered late to the P.O. box.

First of all, I am a retired Postmaster with 30+ years of service. Every time I think about UPS I remember the $400 flyrod I had ordered, got "lost" between the local hub and my house...A distance of about 6 miles! Cabela's sent another one though. Then I also remember one day at work a clerk came up and asked me If I knew a certain person at a particular address? It was my wife's address before we got married. She had mailed me a letter 1 month before I left Vietnam. I was assigned to 3 different units in the last 2 months of in-country. So, I can see why the letter took 7 YEARS to catch up.

Ive got a trigger gaurd from Borden that dissapeared on the 25 of august i think . The tracking number just says in route to next facility.

Same story here. I quit sending stuff via USPS. FedEx has not let me down so far.

Does the tracking number have a pre-planned route built into it? If so, maybe have your PO call those in the route and find out WTH is going on.
