Using the Garmin XERO

Fellows. I've got a Garmin XERO. Would like to know if its readings are inaccurate if you do not locate it/ position it within the limits Garmin says to....... 5 to 15" AFT of the muzzle AND 5 to 15" Left OR Right of the muzzle.

And..... are the readings more accurate if you hold the distances closer to the 5" than the 15".

Thanks

I've not tested mine for accuracy outside of what Garmin suggests. Give how the radar works, I think when you do use it out of those parameters, it'll change the accuracy some, but not enough to be of much concern, unless it's way out of the parameters. Having it too close, I imagine the barrel gets in the way some??? But it's all a matter of angles where the radar wave can be first picked up as the projectile exits the muzzle compared to when it's further down range. I think the bigger then angle the more error is introduced.

I haven't seen any issues yet. I generally put it even with the forend and to the side (maybe a foot) but I don't measure it when placing it down. Barrel lengths go from 22 inches to 32 inches, so some have well over two feet to the muzzle.

this test was shot off the bench, with the spotting scope to my left with the garmin on the rod. so it was about even with delta ring and about the height of the barrel. so thats about 19 inches from the muzzle.
