Using standard seating dies for AI cases

Bob Ruch at Forster indicated that you could use their standard Bench Rest seating die to seat bullets in a AI case. Example, 7-08 die will work for 7-08AI. Anybody done it?

I works with my standard .260 Remington Redding Competition seating die. Seats both the standard and AI rounds just fine...

ceylonc, when using this procedure have you checked runout after sizing the case and then compared it again after seating a bullet? I am getting nice straight cases before seating, .001 runout, but after seating the runout is .005. I am trying to find out if the forster type seating die will correct it.

They seat just fine with my 7mmSAUM AI too, and that surprised me a little.
Run out is non existent so far...
Now if I can get my sizer die back from them all honed out and working good.......

Are you using a bushing sizing die or a std saami spec sizing die and expander ball ? Maybe you have too much neck tension and the case is getting deformed when seating the bullet.

A while back I read that 'off the shelf' Wilson inline seating dies have a saami neck dimension but are still know for producing loaded rounds with very little runout.

So far I haven't had a runout problem. Maybe I've just been lucky but so far, so good...

Depends on what is causing the run-out. Check the fit of the seating plug to your bullet; the tip of the bullet should not make contact. Secondly, rotate the cartridge as you seat the bullet - two or three stages.

The Forster seater will correct your run-out problem only if the seater stem fits better, if the alignment sleeve corrects a problem caused by your present procedure, or if you are replacing otherwise defective equipment.
