Using once fired brass for 22-250AI

LRPV

Does anyone have thoughts or advice on using once fired Lapua 22-250 for fireforming to 22-250AI? Should it work Ok or should I just buy new brass for it?

Usually new brass will be your best bet, but if you anneal it, and full length size it, you'll probably be OK with used brass....

I just got done fireforming once fired Lapua 22-250 brass to AI a few weeks ago and they formed very well. As Preacher said, I would anneal them and then FL resize from there and they will be fine.

Unless the brass has been fireformed in an identical chamber cut by the SAME REAMER ... I'd purchase new brass.

Before I did any sizing, i would try a fired case in the AI chamber. If it has a good feel, I would think about neck sizing, and if it was too tight, I would use the rifle to set up the FL die for the feel that I wanted.

These were fired in 22-250 LRPV that has a pretty tight chamber and the new rifle is going to be on Savage repeater action so I suppose I could adjust it a little if needed when the barrel gets screwed on. I figured I would have it set with a gauge and then see how the fired case fit and adjust the die to get a crush fit. I was wondering more about whether or not they form OK without them being new, and wondered about the annealing that has been mentioned. I am guessing the annealing is going to be the safest bet without buying new brass. Thanks all.

Work hardening from one firing and no sizing of the body or shoulder should be minimal. I would try a few. You might be pleasantly surprised.
