Using F A 'wet tumbler" to HBN coat bullets ?

Has anyone tried or are using their Frankford Arsenal wet tumbler to coat bullets [moly or HbN], by finding a secure container for the bullets, media [BB's} and HbN / moly that will fit in the barrel, then securing the container inside the barrel/drum so it dosen't move inside the drum ?

i use containers in my sidewinder, no reason it would not work in the midway
but i let them rotate freely, not packed hard

I may give it a try with some as cast bullets and no media just to see how my container holds up.
I'll have to look around for a long container, the opening in the F A tumbler is 3 7/8" and is probably 11" deep with the lids on.

Will summer EVER get here ?

READ the 3rd post about the mouth of the F A and probably the RCBS tumblers having small openings, in the 4" range

I do believe you are over complicating this whole process. We dry apply the hBN in a vibratory tumbler with steel, not lead, shot. This has worked for us for 10 years. In the Lyman tumbler we do 130 6mm or 100 .30 cal. bullets.

I dry tumbled Moly bullets for years, with mixed results. I now wet tumble moly bullets in a rotary tumbler. 100 / 500 bullets with moly powder, a little water and one drop of dish soap. 2 hours of tumbling, rinse off the bullets, dry them in the oven to boil the water out of the hollow points, and they look like jewelry. No polishing, perfect coating.

I put the bullets, copper plated lead BBs and HBN in a 4oz Nalgene bottle

It is about 4" high

Tumble for two hours, towel off the excess.
