Using Calipers w/Wilson Trimmer

In re: the blog about using calipers to adjust a Wilson case trimmer, Boyd has a great idea. As an alternative, I use the inside measuring fingers on the caliper and measure the actual distance from the stop to the cutter. Only trick to this is keeping pressure on the cutter shaft so it doesn't move. It works well for me, though. If I want to trim cases to 1.555" I just set the stop to touch against the locked caliper set at 1.555" and trim away.

$80 will buy a lot of bullets and powder!!!

Reed--very clever indeed. One smart tip deserves another.

I've added your method to the BLOG write-up. Micrometers are handy, but these "poor man's" inventions are so rewarding in use.

I went a little different route. I wanted the Micrometer head without the expense. What I did was bought a used 1" micrometer. Took the micrometer off of the C section.

Brought my Wilson to my Smith on one of my visits. Had him drill a hole in the base .75" closer to the cutter. Than the original location. He then opened up the threaded washer section for a tight fit for the micrometer.

Since I use the Wilson for the 6BR and PPC it is just were I need it with repeatable results. Total cost $15.
