Using 6mm Creedmoor in a 6.5mm Creedmoor rifle?

We need a new forum called called "Caliber Exchanges " To discuss all the compatible calibers.

Like 556 NATO and FN57 should work.

Then there's all the different 6 mm cartridges that could be shot out of one barrel.. That alone would help solve the ammo shortage….. just shoot whatever 6 mm is on the store shelves thru your 6mm BR gun.

Of course 22 RF would work with 223 except for the fact it's not a center fire round.

Maybe we can get Joe Biden to be the forum moderator...

I do not have a response to the OP's question that I can post on a public forum. Now I have a new theory on how Biden got elected. And how the USA has devolved to what it is now. It makes me very sad.
Yeah, but...I think that if we can help those newbies that are willing to learn, we can add more pro gunners to our side of the issue! It will take some patience, tho!

Well. when I got one of the first 7mm TCU barrels when T/C first came out with them I fired a couple 223 rounds just to see how they would fire form. They didn't come out to bad but I had better luck just using the tappered expander and lots of lube inside the case neck. Oh I forgot to say I didn't have a target set up to see where the bullet went.

In my youth I loaded many 270 rounds made from 30-06 brass and alas a friend who used the same color and style aftermarket cartridge boxes accidentally shot 6 of them in his 30-06, he missed a jackrabbit at 15 yards all 6 times and I have no idea why that jackrabbit just sat there while I was talking crap about Charlie not being able to hit the rabbit so close. At any rate pressures were very low, a lot of unburnt powder in the bore and one clean patch brought his barrel back to it's sparkling self. However the necked down to 270 30-06 cases didn't fully obturate and the chamber required a bit more attention than the barrel to get the unburnt powder out and there was even some residue in the action. I say even though pressure might not be an issue unburnt powder exiting the action in your direction can be. So no I don't recommend doing it.

No pressure means no velocity. I once fired several 22PPC in a 6PPC chamber. Bullets traveled about 75 yds. before hitting the ground. No lasting problems.

Let's not forget that we were all new at one point. I've asked more stupid questions than this one and will continue to do so.

Let's all be happy that the OP asked the question before trying it. That's smart in my opinion.

He may be confused because there are some cartridges that can be fired in firearms designed for a different chambering. 45 Colt and 45 Schofield, 44 Rem Mag and 44 Special, etc...

Just like the title says...is it possible/ok/safe to shoot 6mm Creedmoor in a 6.5mm Creedmoor rifle?

My story is that I went to pick some 6.5mm Creed up from the store for a friend... did an oopsie and got 6mm (instead of 6.5mm).

After doing some research, it looks like PSI's, cases, etc... are same. Basically, 6mm Creed necks down to the smaller bullet/projectile size.

The barrel may be a little bit big and twist may be off, but I'm guessing it would be OK running 20 through just practicing?
Any feedback is welcomed and thanks in advance!
I saw a 264 win mag round shot in a 300 win mag by mistake. The was a strange report and the bullet hit the ground about 25 yds in front of the muzzle. Thae case epanded to fit and the neck/shoulder were split in multiple places.

A former buddy of mine fired a 308 in a 270 which produced dang near straight wall case. Fortunately no injury to shooter nor rifle despite him breaking a couple cardinal rules.

Very lucky guy. Exact same thing happened at a range near me. A split barrel and action, scope obliterated, stock splintered, and some injuries to those nearby.

I know we get tired of the posts with pictures of exploded firearms when someone does something stupid (like wrong ammo), but maybe it's good to keep showing them on forums like this so newbies like the OP get a little bit a fear and caution.
6mm crudmore in a 6.5mm. Not the end of the world due to ability for gas to escape down the barrel, but it won't perform, just blood the projectile out.

Seen a guy on practice day having issues getting on paper at 600 yards. Shot and shot and shot. About 15 minutes later found out he brought his 6 creedmore ammo to the line with a 6.5 Creedmore gun. Didn't hear if any damage was done to the 6.5.

I shoot both 6mm and 6.5 Creedmoor.

One day at the 600 yd range I accidently chambered a 6mm in my 6.5 CM.

When I pulled the trigger, I noticed 3 things.
1. Very little recoil
2. Very little blast noise
3. Didn't hear the report from the steel plate I was shooting at.

Did not damage the barrel or action but lousy accuracy....;-)

No don't do it....!

I had a 6XC case sneak into my 6CM cases somehow. Was shooting my 6CM RPR doing 3-shot jump tests. 3rd shot sounded the same, felt the same and went right between the first two at 100 yds. Didn't think anything of it other than wishing they were just one hole, until I went to inspect the primer, something I do with every shot and saw the 6XC stamped into the case head. After regaining my composure, I counted my blessings, sat it down next to one of the two empty 6CM cases and it had fireformed perfectly into a 6CM. I spray painted it blaze orange and keep it where I have to look at it every time I'm loading, as a reminder to keep other caliber brass off my reloading bench until I'm ready to load them.

Hoot

Shooting a smaller size bullet loaded in a similar sized/dimensioned case isn't the worst thing... bullet is going to exit barrel off-center. The only risk is if it strikes a muzzle device or suppressor baffles. To blow up a gun usually takes too much powder, wrong caliber bullet (larger than rifle's bore), or wrong cartridge (case is really short &/or case head is a different diameter so bullet doesn't align/center in chamber).

Best to cough up the $30-$50 out of your pocket and give it back to your friend, and sell/give away the "wrong" ammo. Eyes, fingers, and hearing are expensive or impossible to repair/replace.

Haven't seen a new video posted to YouTube so maybe he listened. Darwin Moments.

At a local range that I used to visit when I got bored (but never took a firearm out of my vehicle and always stood a safe distance behind the shooters) I've seen them routinely shoot .270 in a 30-06, 7mm-08 in a .308, and once I even watched an idiot shoot a .257 Wby in a .300 Wby. Then there were the handgunners! If it would hang in the cylinder and close they shot it. Sadly the owner passed away from natural causes and the circus closed. Surprisingly no ever got injured or killed but some of the guns took a beating.
