This has been an interesting thread to me. I like to know the other folks in the room, and sometimes it turns out to be a small world sorta thing, too. This is a little long, but for anybody wanting to know where "SmokinJoe" came from, here is the story: I was given the “SmokinJoe” moniker by some of my fellow BR shooters at the IBS Metric 100/200 Nationals in Painted Post, NY years ago because I had a spectacular weekend there setting 3 World Records and winning the whole thing. I was kind of neck & neck at 200 meters with a guy who was at the bench to my left on the same relay as we came into the final target. He was shooting extremely well, and I knew I had to shoot a really good target to win. Well, I had been seeing this wind condition all afternoon that seemed to offer great opportunity, but had not been able to get myself to be patient and use it to best effect. I vowed to myself that I was gonna sit & wait for it on that last target, and when it came it was all I had hoped it would be. I shot a 50-4X on that target; he only got one X, and that cinched the overall win for me + 2 of the World Records. Google up “Smokin Joe” Entrekin & I think you can still find some stuff about my BR shooting. That was back about 2003/2004, so pretty old stuff now. I had a great run both with my shooting and pioneering the 30BR cartridge to the top of score shooting.
That's my story & I'm stickin' to it :)

There are quite a few that use both a handle and name. Maybe that's the best of both worlds ;)

I use the name "Macropod" as reflection of the country I live in. Macropods are kangaroos and wallabies etc so there is the clue!
Also a nickname for an interesting bipod I designed, built and used that had some interesting concepts.

I've been using my own name since my first use of a computer back in the Days of Yore when Dinosaurs Roamed the Earth.

Occasionally I added a "1" suffix to it when I had forgotten a previous sign up and couldn't figure out how to get back on.

In school, got called Jack Hammer, Sledge Hammer, Tack Hammer, 8 Pound Hammer, Ball Pein Hammer, Claw Hammer, Hammer Head, The Hammer, and just about every other Hammer there is.

I belong to a few forums that require you to use your name instead of a "username". I honestly could care less, but I figure it this way; if someone want/needs to know my name they can PM me and ask...I got zero problems telling them. I also got zero problems making them ask if they want to know.

Edit: it sometimes comes up "why that username??"...some are catchy and humorous and I like that...but really who cares, it probably only means something to the one who is using it.

I am a secret agent, and work as a covert contractor for this and several other governments.

I don't dare to divulge my true identity on any public forum, as the world's fate is held in balance by that knowledge.

I hope that you will all understand, and we can hope for a truthful introduction when we meet in heaven. jd

Now we're gonna call you "thread hammer" for reviving a 5 year old thread!!!!!

Mine is my name (sort of). skeeljc (James C Skeel) is a carryover from my work email. It just stuck. It is still my personal email and my user name on forums.

Well like all things guns there’s a time to be discrete. Sone examples:

1) you walk in the door and your wife is waiting to tell you how hard a day she had, don’t reply sorry, hey try to guess what great sale I locked down surfing the web on Barrett rifles;

2) No sir, someone has my same name. As the GPS tracker shows I was driving I-80 when that post was made. It was snowing outside and I’d never be on a forum. Yes, hmm, I do also have a stock like that one he has. Yessir, of course I do know those fuel rods are important.

3) you pull into your gun range at end of lunch hour because you just have to know today if you can really cram that much powder in, without brass flow. Boss man’s eyes in his rear view mirror are fixed on your face as you pull in to park. Out comes you and “Mary thought I might find you here. Thank goodness, she needs something signed. I have been looking but whew, I’ll grab lunch now and see you at office in 20 minutes.”

Awhile back I asked everyone if they would fill in their bio and I got thrown to the wolve's. If you are on the internet and post your real name then anyone can look you up anyways. There are alternative ways to figure out who you are talking to in the first place but you have to know how to search it through data bases. My name is derived from my nickname of collecting bear archery recurve's etc.
Funny, my first bow was/is a recurve Bear, I've watched all the Fred Bear videos and read his books when I shot bow.
